PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fergus McDugan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and IZRAEL KEAKUA (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). KEAKUA has chosen pagan pay gone as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. IZRAEL KEAKUA acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fergus McDugan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, IZRAEL KEAKUA!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDugan shoots in for a takedown but KEAKUA shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
McDugan throws a head kick that KEAKUA semi-blocks.


It looks like IZRAEL KEAKUA has been cut.

McDugan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. KEAKUA looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
KEAKUA is trying to escape the position but McDugan is controlling the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
KEAKUA throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
McDugan controls the position.
KEAKUA is trying to get back to half guard.
McDugan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for KEAKUA on the ground.

KEAKUA tries to strike but it doesn't land.
McDugan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McDugan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but KEAKUA does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

McDugan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so KEAKUA is just riding it out for now. McDugan eventually gives up the hold.
KEAKUA is refusing to be controlled, as McDugan sits in half guard.
KEAKUA flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
McDugan is keen to just control but KEAKUA is a slippery customer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

KEAKUA seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

KEAKUA drops back, looking for a kneebar! McDugan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. McDugan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from McDugan!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
KEAKUA manages to work his way to half guard, despite McDugan's best efforts.
KEAKUA looks gassed!
KEAKUA throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

McDugan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McDugan wants to take a breather but KEAKUA is having none of it.

McDugan is pressing down on KEAKUA's thigh, looking to free his foot. KEAKUA is holding on for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

McDugan pulls KEAKUA in close to his closed guard and prevents KEAKUA from doing any damage or advancing position.

KEAKUA loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

KEAKUA postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McDugan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of KEAKUA, into his guard.
KEAKUA is breathing heavily.
McDugan working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of KEAKUA's head.

McDugan got a little sloppy there for a moment and KEAKUA has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McDugan has managed to get both his arms back between KEAKUA's legs - danger averted.
Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.

KEAKUA looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

McDugan stands up over KEAKUA, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

KEAKUA is looking for a triangle but McDugan pushes his legs off easily.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, McDugan cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

KEAKUA somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

McDugan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
KEAKUA doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

KEAKUA closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

KEAKUA creates some space and throws a big elbow, but McDugan sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

McDugan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McDugan showed some decent athleticism there.
KEAKUA won't allow McDugan to pass to mount.

KEAKUA looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

IZRAEL KEAKUA has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

McDugan is really struggling to control KEAKUA but he's trying to hold on to the position.

McDugan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks KEAKUA with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

McDugan drives through and clinches with KEAKUA against the cage.

KEAKUA breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

McDugan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McDugan lands in his opponent's guard.
McDugan wants to pass the guard but KEAKUA is keeping the position.

McDugan takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
McDugan is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
KEAKUA is pressing down on McDugan's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

KEAKUA escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McDugan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

KEAKUA throws his legs up looking for a submission but McDugan uses it to pass to side control.
KEAKUA misses with a strike from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fergus McDugan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well McDugan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
