PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Francisco Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Shogun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mir comes to the cage accompanied by Nas - Hate Me Now. Mauricio Shogun is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Francisco Mir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mauricio Shogun!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Aleksandr Martynov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shogun tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mir paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Shogun shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Mir gets full guard.

Mir throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Mir had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shogun defends it easily.
Mir looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Shogun missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Shogun wants to stand but Mir is controlling his posture from full guard.
Mir is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shogun is trying to stand up here but Mir is controlling him well.
Shogun moves into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shogun utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mir wants to control from the top but Shogun keeps moving.
Mir stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shogun swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shogun working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mir.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Shogun not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shogun looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mir gets a clinch.
Shogun wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Mir effectively controlling the action here.

Shogun pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Shogun circles away from the clinch attempt.
Shogun pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mir lands a slapping body shot.

Mir forces Shogun back against the cage and clinches.
Mir misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Shogun.

Mir manages to break the clinch.

Shogun shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mir napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Shogun looks gassed!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Shogun tries to stand but Mir is controlling his head.
Shogun throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
You can see the frustration on Mir's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mir is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Shogun off and has taken his back!
Mir is controlling the position but Shogun somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.

Mir is working for a submission of some sort.
Mir is keen to just control but Shogun is a slippery customer.

Mir is working for a kimura but Shogun is defending it quite comfortably.
Mir is looking to take a break and control but Shogun is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Shogun won't allow Mir to pass to mount.
Mir seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shogun does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mir wants to free his trapped foot but Shogun is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Shogun is trying to stand.
Mir is figuring out what he wants to do next.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Mir drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Francisco Mir dominated that round.
That's time! Mir's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Mir clinches up against the cage.
Mir wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Shogun has him pressed against the cage.

Mir is trying to trip Shogun. He has hold of a leg but Shogun is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mir persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mir accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mir advances position into side control!
A lull in the action here as Mir stalls from top position.
Shogun struggling a bit here.
Mir working the head and body with strikes.

Mir is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Shogun knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Shogun is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mir tries for a kimura but Shogun is defending well.
The ground and pound from Mir seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Shogun pushes Mir away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mir gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Shogun's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Mir cracks Shogun with a big elbow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shogun trying to remain calm as Mir controls from the top position.
Mir has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Shogun is trying to get back to half guard.
Mir working the head and body with strikes.
Mir lands a decent elbow from side control.
Francisco Mir overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mir wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shogun keeps working.

Mir in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Shogun is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
