PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between trevmbo Noble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cowgill Nightmare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, trevmbo Noble!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cowgill Nightmare!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nightmare circles away from the clinch attempt.
Noble tries to clinch up.
Noble misses with a double jab.
Noble wants to clinch up but Nightmare keeps it at a distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Noble looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Nightmare shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Noble manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Noble manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Noble goes for an armbar but Nightmare turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Nightmare.
Nightmare advances to half guard.
Noble wants to stand back up but Nightmare manages to pass into side control.

Noble tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Nightmare happy to just control the position for now.
Nightmare landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Nightmare is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Nightmare decides to stand back up. Nightmare steps back and let's Noble get back to his feet.
Nightmare walks into a jab.
A swing and a miss from Noble.
Noble fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Noble takes the fight into the clinch.
Noble gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Nightmare.
Noble has had enough of the clinch but Nightmare keeps him there for the moment.
Noble really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Noble is trying to break the clinch but Nightmare is controlling him.

Nightmare successfully pulls guard.
Nightmare controlling the position.
Noble throwing strikes from guard but Nightmare blocks nicely.

Noble wants to get up but he can't break Nightmare's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Nightmare really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Noble. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Noble decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
No joy there for Noble, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Noble fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Noble is breathing heavily.

Nightmare shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Noble but Noble pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nightmare shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Noble pinned against the cage. Noble gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
trevmbo Noble has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cowgill Nightmare.
Noble throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nightmare.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Noble connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
trevmbo Noble seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Noble with a poor takedown

and Nightmare counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Noble is trying to control but Nightmare manages to pass to mount!
Noble is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Noble is in a horrible position here. Nightmare smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cowgill Nightmare dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Nightmare gets a takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Nightmare lands with a punch from half guard.
Nightmare tries to pass the half guard into mount. Noble knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Noble gets back to full guard.

Noble working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nightmare doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nightmare manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Nightmare with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Noble looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Noble wants to stand up but Nightmare is controlling him.
Nightmare stands up over Noble, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Noble wants to control but Nightmare passes easily into half guard.
Nightmare is controlling the pace.
Nightmare looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Well, if Nightmare is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Noble is trying to stand back up but Nightmare is controlling him
Noble pushes Nightmare off but Nightmare dives into side control.
Noble taking punishment in the form of punches.
Noble tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nightmare wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
A lull in the action here.

Nightmare tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Noble throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Nightmare decides to stand back up.
Noble fails with the takedown

and Nightmare moves into the clinch.
Nightmare keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Noble's efforts to push away.
Noble is trying to drag Nightmare to the mat but Nightmare just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nightmare tries to score a body lock takedown but Noble shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Noble wants to break free but Nightmare has control.
Nightmare drops down looking for an ankle pick but Noble pulls his leg out and moves away.
No luck for Nightmare with that takedown attempt.
trevmbo Noble has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cowgill Nightmare.
Noble keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

and Nightmare counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cowgill Nightmare showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Nightmare misses with a takedown attempt - Noble sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Noble looks to land a combination but Nightmare avoids it well.
Noble throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Nightmare lands an elbow.
Nightmare in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
You can see the frustration on Noble's face as Nightmare controls the position.
Noble is trying to buck Nightmare off.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Noble is trying to get back to half guard.
Noble is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Nightmare asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Nightmare thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Noble struggling a bit here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nightmare remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Nightmare is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Noble is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Nightmare decides to stand back up. Nightmare steps back and let's Noble get back to his feet.
Noble throws a combination that misses

and Nightmare counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Nightmare.
Noble is trying to force a seperation but Nightmare has the dominant position.
Noble is trying to break free.
Nightmare has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Noble avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Noble wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Nightmare has him pressed against the cage.

Nightmare gets control of Noble's arms and successfully pulls guard. Nightmare will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Noble tries to stand but Nightmare is controlling from the bottom.
Nightmare pulls Noble in close to prevent any damage.
Noble trying to control the position from guard on top but Nightmare is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Noble is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Nightmare is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
trevmbo Noble has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Noble wants to stand and escape but instead Nightmare has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nightmare slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Noble.

Noble is looking to regain half guard here but Nightmare keeps moving and retains side control.
Noble throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Nightmare lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Cowgill Nightmare is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Nightmare stands up and beckons Noble to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cowgill Nightmare comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Nightmare winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
