PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mirko Filipovic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rambo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Filipovic's entrance music is Duran duran - Wild Boys. A fine choice. Rambo has chosen sikk - my washing machine as his entrance music. The key to victory for Mirko Filipovic has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rambo shoots in but Filipovic avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Filipovic gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rambo to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Rambo wants to control from the top but Filipovic keeps moving.

Rambo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rambo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rambo moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
John Rambo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rambo shoots for a takedown but Filipovic saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

It looks like John Rambo has been cut.
Filipovic lands with a slapping head kick.
Rambo tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Filipovic lands with a hook. Rambo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Filipovic throws a sloppy head kick and Rambo moves out of range easily.
Good leg kick by Filipovic there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Rambo takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Rambo tries to clinch but Filipovic moves out of range.
Filipovic plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The fight stays on the outside here - Rambo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rambo explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Rambo wants to clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rambo creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Filipovic's defenses.

Rambo pulls guard effortlessly.
Rambo has Filipovic pulled in close to control his posture.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Rambo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Filipovic manages to get himself to full guard.
Filipovic knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rambo on the ground.
Rambo wants to stand but Filipovic has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Rambo looking to sit in guard and control but Filipovic gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Filipovic has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rambo kicks Filipovic off and gets to his feet.
Rambo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rambo tries for a takedown but Filipovic sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rambo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Filipovic could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rambo stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Filipovic.

Rambo misses with a two punch combination.
Rambo lands with a kick to the temple. Filipovic shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Rambo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Rambo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Filipovic's head.
Rambo stops Filipovic from getting back to his feet.

Rambo escapes and gets back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Filipovic tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rambo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nice takedown defense from Filipovic. No joy for Rambo on that attempt.
Filipovic throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Rambo will probably get the nod.

Filipovic lands a head kick. Rambo smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Filipovic throws a leg kick which misses Rambo's front leg but catches the back leg as Rambo tries to avoid it.
Filipovic scores with a shot to the body.
Filipovic throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Filipovic.
Filipovic leaves Rambo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Rambo is looking to sinch up a triangle. Filipovic throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Rambo's body to avoid the submission. Rambo has instead reached around Filipovic's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Rambo arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
