The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Defloratore fails with the takedown.
Defloratore is trying hard to land a takedown here. Virtanen sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Virtanen clinches with his opponent.
Defloratore prevents a takedown attempt there.
Virtanen goes for a takedown in the clinch but Defloratore prevents it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Defloratore tries to pass the half guard into mount. Virtanen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Virtanen keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Defloratore throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Defloratore is keen to just control but Virtanen is a slippery customer.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Defloratore is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Virtanen is just riding it out for now. Defloratore eventually gives up the hold.
Defloratore wants to free his trapped foot but Virtanen is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Virtanen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Defloratore sprawls well initially but Virtanen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Defloratore tries to get to full guard but Virtanen has control of the leg.

Defloratore wants to improve his position but Virtanen is controlling well.
Virtanen is breathing heavily.
Defloratore has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Virtanen is working away from the top position though.
Defloratore is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Defloratore wants to get back to his feet.
Defloratore is pressing down on Virtanen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Virtanen trying to control but Defloratore is working from the bottom.
Defloratore will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Defloratore pulls Virtanen in to control the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Defloratore is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Defloratore is working an open guard so Virtanen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Virtanen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice uppercut there from Defloratore.
Defloratore shoots and misses
and Virtanen counters with a takedown into side control.

Virtanen remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Virtanen stands up.
Defloratore shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Virtanen holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Defloratore drags the fight down to the ground.
Virtanen passes easily into side control. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jussi Virtanen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Virtanen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Defloratore is trying to stand back up but Virtanen is controlling him

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Defloratore had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Virtanen defends it easily.

Well Virtanen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
