Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Big Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Remy Bonjasky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bonjasky has chosen The man with the harmonica as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Big Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Remy Bonjasky!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Lou da Vinci and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bonjasky fails with a takedown attempt.
Joe gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Bonjasky counters with a single leg into guard. Joe didn't expect that.
Joe is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Joe looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bonjasky wants to stand and escape but instead Joe has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Joe is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Bonjasky is trying to keep Joe in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bonjasky wants to sweep but no luck.
Bonjasky wants to stand up but Joe is controlling him.
Bonjasky wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Joe manages to pass to side control.

Bonjasky tries to roll over but Joe keeps him under control.
Bonjasky is trying to stand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Joe tries for a takedown but Bonjasky circles away easily

and Bonjasky counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Bonjasky looks gassed!

Bonjasky is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Joe doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bonjasky.

Joe kicks off Bonjasky and gets to his feet.

Joe shoots and misses
and Bonjasky counters with a series of strikes. Joe will be more careful next time no doubt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Joe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Some wild striking there from Joe.
Bonjasky throws a series of punches but Joe avoids them all with ease.
Joe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bonjasky sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Joe somewhat.
Big Joe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bonjasky swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Joe counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bonjasky has hold of Joe's hands but Joe slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Joe trying to control the action but Bonjasky is working from the bottom.

Joe seems to be looking for submissions.

Joe decides to stand and escape the position.

Bonjasky tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bonjasky throws a left and a right that both miss

and Joe counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Bonjasky!

Joe is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Bonjasky has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Joe throws a wild left hand from mount and Bonjasky manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Bonjasky tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Joe is trying to control the action in half guard but Bonjasky is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Joe is thwarting Bonjasky's attempts to control the position.
Bonjasky wants to get back to full guard.

Joe gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Joe shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bonjasky's guard.
Bonjasky working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Joe.
Bonjasky thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Joe drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Joe jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Joe keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bonjasky's head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Joe wants to pass the guard but Bonjasky is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Big Joe dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Bonjasky throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Joe counters with a takedown into side control.
Big Joe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bonjasky takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Joe prevents Bonjasky from escaping the position.
Bonjasky is not content to let Joe control the position.
Bonjasky manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Joe misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Bonjasky thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Joe's head.

Joe kicks Bonjasky off and gets back to his feet.

Bonjasky rushes Joe and presses him up against the cage.
Joe has Bonjasky pressed against the cage.

Joe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Joe shoots and misses

and Bonjasky holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Bonjasky works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Bonjasky drops back, looking for a kneebar! Joe looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Joe looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Joe!

Joe wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bonjasky, who protects the arm well.

Bonjasky manages to work his way to half guard, despite Joe's best efforts.
Joe looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bonjasky with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Joe moves into full mount! Bonjasky won't be happy about that!

Joe won't let Bonjasky get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Joe lands a heavy elbow.

Joe is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Bonjasky has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Bonjasky!

Joe has his foot on Bonjasky's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bonjasky works his way back into a safe position though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bonjasky drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Joe dives on top into guard.
Bonjasky wants to stand up but Joe is controlling him.

Joe throws a big right hand that misses.
Joe throwing strikes but missing.
Joe wants to control from the top but Bonjasky keeps moving.

Joe is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Joe wants to pass the guard but Bonjasky is keeping the position.
Bonjasky is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Joe stands up from Bonjasky's guard - Joe perhaps looking for a knockout.

and Bonjasky counters with a big head kick but Joe shrugs it off.

and Bonjasky counters with a good low kick that Joe was not able to check.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Joe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bonjasky gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Big Joe dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Joe doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bonjasky counters with a good, hard body kick but Joe shrugs it off.
Bonjasky tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

and Bonjasky decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Joe's guard.

Joe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bonjasky makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Bonjasky gets to his feet - Joe follows without any prompting.

Joe has one foot on Bonjasky's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

and Bonjasky counters with a single leg into guard. Joe didn't expect that.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Joe throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Bonjasky escapes and throws Joe's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Joe is looking for a sweep.

Bonjasky stands up.
Joe has his takedown stuffed
and Bonjasky counters with a head kick. That will keep Joe thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and Bonjasky counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bonjasky.

Joe has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Bonjasky doesn't defend quickly enough and Joe has managed to lock this one up! Can Bonjasky escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Joe on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Big Joe!
