PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Umipig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Umipig comes to the cage accompanied by Loser. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brandon Umipig!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bruce Smith!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Umipig drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Umipig trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom.
Smith wants to control but Umipig postures up.

Umipig wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.
Smith tries to bench press Umipig off him but Umipig keeps the position.

Umipig working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Smith is looking for a sweep.

You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Smith pushes Umipig away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Umipig gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Smith is looking to regain half guard here but Umipig keeps moving and retains side control.
Umipig is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Umipig misses with a head kick.
Smith uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Umipig.

Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Umipig is breathing heavily.
Umipig is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Smith wants to control the pace but Umipig is squirming around nicely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Umipig is squirming around, avoiding Smith's attempts to control the action.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Smith has control of Umipig's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Umipig regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Smith tries to control but Umipig wriggling away.

Smith looking for a guillotine from mount but Umipig is having none of it.
Smith trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Umipig is desperately trying to improve his position but Smith has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brandon Umipig will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Smith cracks Umipig with an open hand slap.
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Umipig counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Smith!
Smith has given up his back here. Will Umipig look for the submission or keep pounding away?
Smith is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

I really don't envy Smith right now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Umipig is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Smith knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Smith for a finish.

Umipig is looking for a choke. Smith gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Smith manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Umipig works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Umipig wants to sweep but no luck.
Smith is looking to stand up but Umipig won't let him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Smith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Umipig manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Umipig escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Umipig has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though.

Umipig had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.

Umipig is really struggling to control Smith but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Smith is looking to work some ground and pound but Umipig has wrist control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Smith tries to clinch but Umipig is having none of it.
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Umipig counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Smith throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Umipig is working for a kimura but Smith is defending it quite comfortably.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Umipig dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Smith throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Umipig gets the takedown into side control.
Smith is looking to regain half guard here but Umipig keeps moving and retains side control.
Smith is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Umipig has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Umipig seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smith does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Umipig feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Umipig, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
