PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gustavo Menezes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Drago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Gustavo Menezes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Ivan Drago!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Chris Edwards and Daniel Bishop.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drago shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Menezes as he jumps to the side.
Menezes misses the shot to the body.
Menezes swings for the body but Drago moves out of range.
Drago changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Menezes tries to avoid it but Drago manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Menezes to the ground. Menezes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Menezes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Menezes wants it to stay on the feet.
Gustavo Menezes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ivan Drago.
A telegraphed right hand from Menezes misses the target.
Drago moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Drago shoots in looking for a takedown. Menezes tries to sprawl out of it but Drago keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Menezes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Menezes lands a glancing blow to the side of Drago's head.

It looks like Ivan Drago has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Drago fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Drago looks gassed!
Menezes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Drago.
Menezes connects with a right hand. Drago shakes it off.
Menezes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Menezes fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Drago looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
No joy there for Menezes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Menezes cracks a nice hook into Drago's ribs.
Drago uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Menezes.
Menezes is looking to wear down Drago with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Menezes punishes Drago's body with a nice straight punch.

Menezes drops Drago with a right and a left! Menezes comes rushing in but Drago regains his composure and manages to keep Menezes in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Menezes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
A lull in the action here as Menezes stalls from top position.
Menezes working the ground and pound.
Menezes staying calm.
Drago is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Menezes off and has taken his back!

Drago has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Menezes is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Menezes is trying to get back to his feet but Drago has full control of the position and if anything, Menezes has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Drago has the hooks in. Menezes is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Drago is working for a rear naked choke. Menezes is not defending it well and Drago has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Menezes refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Menezes's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
