PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mitchell Webb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gunner Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mitchell Webb!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gunner Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Ivan Kurochkin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Armstrong tries to bum rush Webb with a series of wild strikes but Webb uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Horrible takedown by Webb or perhaps it was just good defense by Armstrong which made him look bad.

Armstrong pushes Webb up against the cage in a clinch.
Armstrong jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Webb walks away with a smile on his face. Armstrong gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Armstrong slaps away a takedown attempt from Webb, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Armstrong drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Armstrong is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Webb manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Armstrong looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Armstrong not doing much here.
Armstrong tries to stand but can't do so whilst Webb controls his leg.

Webb tries to roll over but Armstrong keeps him under control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Armstrong counters with a head kick. That will keep Webb thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Armstrong closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Webb to the mat! Webb manages to get full guard.

Webb tries to control but Armstrong manages to take his back.
Armstrong wants to control but Webb is keeping busy.

Webb is really stuck here.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Armstrong is breathing heavily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Armstrong's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Armstrong is not going to allow Webb to sit and survive in this position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Webb staying busy and making it hard for Armstrong to control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Despite being in the dominant position, Gunner Armstrong just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Webb closes the distance but Armstrong moves to the side
and Armstrong counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Armstrong shoots in for a double leg but Webb sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Webb shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Webb tries to clinch but fails miserably

Armstrong's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Armstrong throws a nice looking combination but Webb bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Armstrong changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Webb tries to avoid it but Armstrong manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Webb to the ground. Webb escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Armstrong takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Webb has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Armstrong avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Armstrong has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Webb uses from the top position.
Webb stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Armstrong swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Webb wants to control from the top but Armstrong keeps moving.

Armstrong is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Armstrong's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Webb shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Armstrong counters with a one-two to the body.
Webb fails with the takedown

and Armstrong decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Webb's guard.
Mitchell Webb has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gunner Armstrong is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Webb trying to keep a closed guard but Armstrong is proving a slippery customer.

Gunner Armstrong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Armstrong has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
