Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Syd Barret (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Ricardo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barret comes to the cage accompanied by Eminem - Till I Collapse. Ricardo has chosen Bang the Drum All Day as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Syd Barret!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Ricardo!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barret throws a series of punches but Ricardo avoids them all with ease.

Barret drops Ricardo with a nice combination! Barret dives into Ricardo's guard, looking to finish!

Barret drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ricardo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ricardo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ricardo!

Ricardo decides to stand up, so the ref orders Barret to his feet.
Barret misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Barret throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Barret looks to land a combination but Ricardo avoids it well.
Syd Barret seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ricardo lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Barret backs up against the cage.
Barret is breathing heavily.

Ricardo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Well, if Ricardo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ricardo.
Barret tries to buck Ricardo off but Ricardo is having none of it.

Ricardo decides to stand back up. Ricardo steps back and let's Barret get back to his feet.

Ricardo fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Barret looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Barret avoids a punch combination nicely.

Barret gets caught flat footed, as Ricardo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Ricardo decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Ricardo throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Barret stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Ricardo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Barret was covering up waiting for the punch and Ricardo finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ricardo gets to his feet. Barret looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Ricardo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Barret throws a combination that misses

and Ricardo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Barret won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Ricardo grinds an elbow into Barret's temple.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barret takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee asks Ricardo politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ricardo prefers to stall for the moment though.
Ricardo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barret keeps working.

Ricardo's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Barret is looking for a sweep.
Ricardo is putting a hurting on Barret here, landing some big shots from side control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Barret tries to escape but Ricardo is in control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Ricardo dominated that round.

Ricardo decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Ricardo lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Ricardo.
Ricardo drops his hands momentarily and Barret takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Ricardo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Barret closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barret is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Ricardo is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Barret will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Barret pushes Ricardo away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ricardo gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Ricardo. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Barret has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ricardo is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Barret.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Despite being in the dominant position, David Ricardo just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

David Ricardo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ricardo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
