PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Mott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clyde Morse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clyde Morse will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Mott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Clyde Morse!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morse changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mott tries to avoid it but Morse manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mott to the ground. Mott escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mott wants to clinch up but Morse keeps it at a distance.
Morse shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mott defends it nicely.
Morse fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
John Mott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clyde Morse.
Mott misses with a takedown

so Morse counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mott looking to hit a scissor sweep but Morse is one step ahead there.
Morse stops Mott from standing up.
Mott keeping moving, preventing Morse from controlling successfully.
Mott is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mott is working for a submission of some sort.
Morse is looking to control Mott's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Morse avoid being mounted?
Morse moves into full guard.
Mott wants to control from the top but Morse keeps moving.
Mott pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Morse is keeping the position for now.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Morse holds on and takes a little breather.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mott trying to control the position from guard on top but Morse is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Morse is trying to control the position but Mott postures up.
Morse utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morse trying to keep a closed guard but Mott is proving a slippery customer.
Mott works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Morse won't allow Mott to pass to mount.
Mott uses his free foot to push down on Morse's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Morse.
Morse is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Mott jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Morse manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mott working the ground and pound but Morse is defending the strikes.
Morse tries to bench press Mott off him but Mott keeps the position.
Morse is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Mott's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Morse looks gassed!
Morse manages to get to full guard.

Mott is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Morse really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mott. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Morse controlling Mott's posture.
Mott's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Morse keeping full guard, as Mott tries to pass.
Mott thows a big elbow that misses.
Mott trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Morse controls Mott momentarily but Mott frees himself.
Morse keeping moving, preventing Mott from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Clyde Morse will probably get the nod.

Mott closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Mott is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Morse doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mott.
Morse is trying to get back to full guard.
Morse trying to hold on to Mott's head to control him but Mott postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mott wants to lay and pray for a moment but Morse keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Morse avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mott.
Mott frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Morse is squirming around, avoiding Mott's attempts to control the action.
Mott is really struggling to control Morse but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Morse tries to control the position but Mott now has his back.
Mott throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
Morse trying to get back to his feet but Mott is in full control for now.
Morse is breathing heavily.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Mott. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Mott is looking for the choke from the back position but Morse is controlling his hands well.
Mott has the hooks in. Morse is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Mott landing with strikes.
Mott is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Morse up.
Morse just trying to survive but Mott is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Mott is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Morse defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Morse breaks Mott's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Morse slips nicely into half guard.
Mott makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mott.
Mott is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mott looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Morse puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Mott makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Morse shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Mott tries to get to full guard but Morse has control of the leg.
Mott trying to hold on to Morse's head to control him but Morse postures up.
Mott is looking for a sweep. Morse is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Morse is thwarting Mott's attempts to control the position.
Mott tries to get to full guard but Morse has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Mott dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Morse throws an overhand right that lands on Mott's shoulder, as Mott tries to avoid the shot.
Mott doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Morse counters with a big head kick but Mott shrugs it off.

and Mott counters with a single leg into guard. Morse didn't expect that.
Mott is working Morse over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Morse wants to control but Mott passes easily into half guard.

Mott is keen to just control but Morse is a slippery customer.

Morse is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mott is aware though and is defending well.
Mott pushes down on Morse's leg and manages to get into half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Morse is trying to control but can't.
Morse is staying active underneath Mott, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Morse looking for subs from the bottom but Mott mounts him!
Mott landing strikes from the mount and Morse is in trouble!

Mott is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Morse is forced to tap! Great finish!
