PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stelio Kontos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryce Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter has chosen Empire State of Mind as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kontos fails to land with a series of punches.
Carter dives in and grabs Kontos's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kontos pushes down on Carter's head and hops out.
Carter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kontos fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kontos lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carter circles away quickly and effectively.

Carter closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kontos is trying to control but can't.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carter connects with a nice short shot to Kontos's temple.
Carter drops an elbow to the side of Kontos's head.

Carter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like Carter is going to stand back up.
Carter stops Kontos from getting back to his feet.

Kontos tries to get to full guard but Carter has control of the leg.

Carter lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Carter seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Kontos pushes Carter off looking to stand but Carter dives back in and keeps control.
Carter is keen to just control but Kontos is a slippery customer.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Carter throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Carter is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Carter is nestled in close to Kontos, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Carter has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Carter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kontos, who protects the arm well.

Carter moves into range and clinches up with Kontos.

Carter tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kontos just stands there and leans against the cage.
Carter tries to score a body lock takedown but Kontos shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Carter has Kontos pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Carter pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kontos tumbling to the mat - Carter dives into Kontos's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kontos wants to get back to his feet but Carter is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Carter wants to control from the top but Kontos keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Carter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kontos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Carter somewhat.
Stelio Kontos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Kontos counters with a series of strikes. Carter will be more careful next time no doubt.

Kontos drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Carter manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kontos has Carter in his guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bryce Carter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

and Carter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Carter walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Kontos goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

and Carter counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kontos!

Kontos's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kontos drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Carter dives on top into guard.

Carter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Kontos counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

so Carter counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Carter postures up in Kontos's guard and throws a big left but Kontos blocks it.
Carter lands a couple of digs.

Kontos manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Carter shoots for a takedown but Kontos saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Kontos cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kontos will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
