Smithers has chosen Metallica - No Leaf Clover as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos Machete!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Smithers!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machete connects with a good right hand that stumbles Smithers. Smithers circles away out of range and recomposes himself.


It looks like Jim Smithers has been cut.
Machete rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smithers moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Smithers looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Machete wants to sweep here but Smithers controlling him for the moment.
Machete wants to get back to his feet but Smithers is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Machete knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smithers on the ground.

Machete is looking to work some ground and pound but Smithers has wrist control.

Machete is defending against the submission attempts here by Smithers.

Smithers prevents Machete from standing back up.

Smithers wants to work for an arm triangle but Machete is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Machete tries to kick Smithers off but Smithers keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Machete trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Smithers throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Machete is looking for a sweep. Smithers is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Jim Smithers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Machete's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Smithers lands a nice looking kick to the body. Machete takes a step back to recover.
Smithers misses with a jab, cross combination.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smithers looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Smithers connects with a body shot.
Smithers is looking to clinch but Machete is avoiding it.
Machete tries to close the distance and clinch but Smithers swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Machete moves in looking to clinch but Smithers pushes him off.

Machete is trying to break the clinch but Smithers is controlling him.
Smithers manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Smithers manages to pull guard.
Machete in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Smithers lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Machete!
Smithers breaks from Machete's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smithers lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Machete hang on?

Machete tries to improve his position but instead Smithers has taken his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Machete wants to get back to his feet.
Jim Smithers is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Smithers throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Machete!

Smithers has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Machete.
Machete controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Smithers looking for the choke but no joy.

Smithers keeps control of the position easily here as Machete tries to buck him off.
Carlos Machete has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
