PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Popov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Popov comes into the arena with Goombas have souls too blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Popov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Nick Wilson!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Popov tries for a takedown but Wilson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Popov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Wilson is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Popov has Wilson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Wilson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Popov tries to throw a body punch but Wilson avoids it by throwing Popov back against the cage.

Wilson misses with a takedown attempt - Popov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jack Popov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Wilson.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wilson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Nick Wilson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Wilson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Popov, as that shot connected.
A left and a right from Popov both land. Nice combination.

and Wilson moves into the clinch.
Popov throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Wilson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Popov jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wilson walks away with a smile on his face. Popov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Wilson shoots in but Popov avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Popov tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Wilson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Popov sprawls well initially but Wilson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Wilson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Popov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Wilson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Popov keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wilson in particular looking to stall.
Popov is not content to let Wilson control the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Jack Popov will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Wilson shoots in looking for a takedown. Popov tries to sprawl out of it but Wilson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Popov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Wilson is looking to take a break and control but Popov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wilson throws a strike aimed at the side of Popov's head but Popov avoids it well.
Popov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wilson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Popov is working hard here to advance position.
Wilson tries to move to mount but Popov blocks the move with his legs.
Popov is not content to let Wilson control the position.

Popov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wilson is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Nick Wilson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Wilson lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Popov sprawling to the canvas. Wilson follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Popov hang on?

Wilson wants to work for an arm triangle but Popov is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Popov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Popov wants to control the action here but instead Wilson manages to pass to full mount!
Popov tries to hold on but Wilson pushes him away.

Wilson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Popov is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Popov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Popov wants to control but Wilson is keeping him busy.

Wilson is looking to regain half guard here but Popov keeps moving and retains side control.

Popov throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Wilson works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

so Wilson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Wilson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Popov has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Wilson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Wilson fails to land the takedown.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Popov is wriggling around trying to escape.

Wilson throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Nick Wilson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wilson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
