Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yoshiaki Urai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Filipe Melo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Urai kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Japan Will Kick Your Ass. Filipe Melo has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshiaki Urai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Filipe Melo!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Taro Takaoka and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melo looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Urai throws a leg kick but Melo checks it.
Melo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Urai swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Urai, right into the meat.
Urai avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Melo throws a head kick that misses.
Melo tries to clinch but Urai moves out of range.
Urai throws a looping overhand right but Melo ducks down to avoid it.
Melo tries to clinch but Urai is having none of it.
Urai throws a low kick but it's checked well by Melo.

Melo instigates a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Urai is looking to break free of the clinch but Melo has double underhooks.
Urai tries to break the clinch but Melo is controlling the position.
Melo prevents Urai from breaking the clinch.

Melo pulls guard successfully.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Urai trying to control the position from guard on top but Melo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Urai trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Melo can't keep his opponent in guard - Urai advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Urai is looking to take a break and control but Melo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Melo wants to improve his position but Urai is controlling well.
Urai is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Urai is trying to control the action in half guard but Melo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Urai shoots in for a double leg but Melo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Urai throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Melo.
Urai throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Melo has Urai up against the ropes in a clinch.
Urai is trying to break the clinch but Melo has him pressed against the ropes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Melo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Urai just stands there and leans against the ropes.
Urai wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Melo working Urai over with knees to the body.
Melo prevents Urai from breaking the clinch.

Melo pulls guard.

Melo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Urai is aware though and is defending well.
Urai has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Melo is proving hard to escape from.
Urai has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Melo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Urai defends well.

Melo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Urai doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Melo is tightening it up a little... Urai has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Urai reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Urai taps out! nice BJJ there by Melo!
