PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kirk Porter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cross Lavi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kirk Porter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cross Lavi!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Porter moves into the clinch successfully.
Lavi is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Lavi misses with a hook to the ribs.
Porter is trying to drag Lavi to the mat but Lavi just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Porter is pressed up against the cage. Lavi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Porter down to the mat. Porter avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Lavi slaps away a takedown attempt from Porter, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Lavi keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Porter.

Lavi gets the takedown into side control.
Lavi moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
An elbow from Lavi crashes against the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lavi is looking to take a break and control but Porter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lavi tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Lavi decides to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Porter connects with a body shot.
Lavi fails with a takedown attempt.
Kirk Porter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cross Lavi.
Lavi shoots in and drives through. Porter sprawls well.
Lavi takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Porter takes the fight into the clinch.
Lavi wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Lavi changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Porter fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Porter defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lavi.
Lavi tries to clinch up but Porter circles away and keeps his distance.
Porter throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lavi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Porter as he avoids it easily.
Lavi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Porter sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Lavi shoots in and drives through. Porter sprawls well.
Porter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lavi circles away quickly and effectively.
Porter stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Porter wants it to stay on the feet.
Lavi shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Porter misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lavi.
Porter looks to score with a jab to the body but Lavi is just out of range.
Porter darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lavi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Porter as he avoids it easily.
Porter catches Lavi with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Porter slaps away a takedown attempt from Lavi, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Porter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lavi circles away quickly and effectively.
Porter looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Cross Lavi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lavi tries for a takedown but Porter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Porter.
Porter shoots for a takedown but Lavi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Porter fails with a takedown attempt.
Porter dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kirk Porter will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Lavi shoots for a double leg takedown but Porter sprawls well. He's pushed Lavi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Porter has Lavi pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lavi manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Lavi decides to pull guard.
Lavi throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Porter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lavi on the ground.
Porter's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Lavi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Lavi keeping full guard, as Porter tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Porter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Lavi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Porter is looking to advance position but Lavi has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Porter is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lavi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Porter is looking to escape.
Lavi looking to ground and pound but Porter is blocking nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Porter holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Lavi tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Lavi trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Lavi content just to control the position here.
Lavi misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Porter tries to lock up and control but Lavi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Lavi is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Porter shoots and misses

and Lavi counters by moving into the clinch.
Lavi gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Porter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kirk Porter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Porter as Lavi tries to tie him up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lavi wants a takedown but no success here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cross Lavi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Horrible takedown by Lavi or perhaps it was just good defense by Porter which made him look bad.
Porter misses with a series of wild punches.
Porter circles away from the clinch attempt

Porter is looking to wear down Lavi with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lavi closes the distance and clinches up with Porter, looking for a takedown. Lavi pushes Porter against the cage but Porter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kirk Porter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cross Lavi.
Lavi takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Lavi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Porter cracks a nice hook into Lavi's ribs.
Porter misses the shot to the body.
Porter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lavi.

Porter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lavi as he jumps to the side.

Lavi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Porter is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Lavi misses with a head shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lavi thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Porter wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Lavi.
Lavi throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Porter is looking to improve his position but Lavi isn't that keen on the idea.
Lavi throwing strikes here but Porter is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Porter is trying to reverse the position but instead Lavi has taken his back - oops!

Lavi controlling well, preventing Porter from escaping the position.

Lavi is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Porter covering up well and avoiding damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lavi punches the canvas rather than the man.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cross Lavi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lavi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
