PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joel King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruud Van Sperr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Sperr is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Kagrra, - Utakata. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joel King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ruud Van Sperr!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Wagner Zegers and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from King.
Van Sperr misses with a looping right.
The fight stays on the outside here - Van Sperr looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

King drives through with a takedown into guard.
King advances to half guard.
Van Sperr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with King. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
King trying to control the pace.
Van Sperr is looking to escape.
King really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Van Sperr is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Van Sperr keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
King sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Van Sperr defending well though.
Van Sperr is looking to control King's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Van Sperr avoid being mounted?

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Van Sperr throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent King stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
King throws a sloppy head kick and Van Sperr moves out of range easily.
King misses with the combination.

King drives through and clinches with Van Sperr against the cage.
Van Sperr throws a head punch that misses.

King manages to break the clinch.
Van Sperr looks to land a left hand but King moved out of range nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Van Sperr moves in looking to clinch but King pushes him off.

Van Sperr rushes King and presses him up against the cage.

King pulls guard.

King working for a triangle but Van Sperr defends it easily.
King working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Van Sperr.
King looking for a sweep. Not yet King, not yet.
Van Sperr wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position.
King is trying to control the position but Van Sperr postures up.
Van Sperr stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.
King looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King striking off his back but it's not causing Van Sperr any problems.
King avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

King closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

King stands up and we're back to a striking position.
King swats away the attempt to clinch by Van Sperr.
King shoots in for a takedown but Van Sperr shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
King takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
King is breathing heavily.
King throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Van Sperr's waist but Van Sperr gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing King off to one side.
Van Sperr lands a right hook to the body.
Van Sperr digs a good hook to King's body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Van Sperr is looking to clinch but King is avoiding it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Van Sperr lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Van Sperr keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.


King is rocked!
Van Sperr connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends King to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by Van Sperr!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ruud Van Sperr!
