PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cocaine Chris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and juan carnero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chris kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is amili. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Chris. No joy for carnero on that attempt.
No luck for carnero with that takedown attempt.
carnero tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chris swivels and escapes.
Cocaine Chris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of juan carnero.
Chris fails to land with a series of punches.

carnero shoots in looking for a takedown. Chris tries to sprawl out of it but carnero keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chris manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
carnero shoots for a double leg takedown but Chris sprawls well. He's pushed carnero's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Chris closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
carnero is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Chris is keeping busy.

carnero stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chris swivels though and keeps the full guard.

carnero thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

carnero drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chris dives on top into guard.

carnero escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chris gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

carnero working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chris doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chris manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

carnero had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Chris is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. carnero Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Chris's back instead.
Chris is really stuck here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Chris tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

carnero jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Chris is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Chris and carnero has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

carnero wants to control for a moment but Chris uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Chris is tying to control. carnero wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
carnero throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
carnero is staying active underneath Chris, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Chris is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so carnero is just riding it out for now. Chris eventually gives up the hold.
Chris is looking to take a break and control but carnero is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Chris changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. carnero tries to avoid it but Chris manages to keep hold of a leg and drag carnero to the ground. carnero escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Chris has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but carnero regains guard immediately.

carnero is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Chris frees his head nicely. Oh but carnero has switched to an armbar! Chris is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
