PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Manson Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raz Zar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wright's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Distillers - Drain the Blood. Manson Wright has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Manson Wright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raz Zar!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zar shoots in but no luck this time.
Wright closes this distance looking for a takedown but Zar circles away.
Wright fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Wright shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Zar napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Zar parries the strikes from Wright easily there. Wright is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Zar to escape.
Wright throws a strike aimed at the side of Zar's head but Zar avoids it well.
Zar is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Zar wants to control but Wright postures up.
Wright creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Zar sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Wright sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Zar is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The strikes coming from Wright are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Zar manages to work his way to half guard, despite Wright's best efforts.
Wright not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Wright loads up on a big right hand but Zar slips the punch.

Zar keeps the fight on the outside.

Wright drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Wright has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Wright will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Zar is working for a guillotine from mount but Wright frees his head quite easily.

Zar is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Wright has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Wright!
Wright has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Zar is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wright has managed to free his arm - good work.

Zar is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wright tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Wright is trying to get back to full guard.
Zar stops Wright from getting back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zar is looking for a kimura but Wright is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Zar to get the leverage.

Zar is working for a submission of some sort.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Wright tries to clinch there but Zar circles away.

Wright could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Wright pulls guard effortlessly.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Zar advances position into side control!

Zar is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wright knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wright shoots in and bounces Zar off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Wright won't allow Zar to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wright working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Wright postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Wright moves into the clinch successfully.
Wright softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Wright.
Wright lands a body shot in the clinch.

Wright breaks from the clinch.

Wright bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Zar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Zar is looking for a sweep.

Wright tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Zar manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Zar is trying to control. Wright wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Zar uses his free foot to push down on Wright's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wright.

Zar is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Wright to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Wright shrugs it off.
Poor strikes thrown by Zar there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Zar jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Wright is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Wright and Zar has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Raz Zar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Manson Wright is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wright, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
