The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Renault keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mertsi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Renault but Renault pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A head kick misses from Renault.

Mertsi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Mertsi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Renault moves away.

Renault decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Renault tries to stand but can't do so whilst Mertsi controls his leg.
Renault passes the guard and advances to mount!

Mertsi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Renault counters with an inside leg kick.

Renault fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mertsi.

Renault gets to his feet. Mertsi looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Mertsi gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Mertsi wants to take a breather but Renault is having none of it.
Renault wants to control but Mertsi is keeping busy.
Mertsi tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Renault.

Mertsi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Renault does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Renault is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Mertsi pulls his head out easily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Renault lands with a slapping head kick.
Renault will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Whack! Renault lands a heavy head kick that drops Mertsi. The ref tackles Renault to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Mertsi was done.
