The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ripley lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mkhalele circles away quickly and effectively.
Mkhalele is looking to clinch but Ripley is avoiding it.
Mkhalele tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ripley paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mkhalele closes the distance and clinches up with Ripley, looking for a takedown. Mkhalele pushes Ripley against the cage but Ripley circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mkhalele jumps guard and drags Ripley to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
