PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Dickenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Borrum Someer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Someer has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. John Dickenson looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Dickenson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Borrum Someer!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Patrick Alders and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Someer tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Someer throws a half hearted mid kick.
Someer looks gassed!
Nice sprawl there from Someer as Dickenson shoots in.
Dickenson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Someer as he avoids it easily.

Dickenson instigates a clinch.
Dickenson is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Someer gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Dickenson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dickenson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Someer prevents it.
Dickenson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Someer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Someer throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Dickenson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Dickenson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Someer has escaped the position, nice work there.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Someer manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Someer seems to be looking for submissions.
Dickenson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Someer is working for a kimura but Dickenson is defending it quite comfortably.
Dickenson is trying to control but can't.
Someer wants to free his trapped foot but Dickenson is holding on for dear life with his legs.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Someer wants to pass to mount but Dickenson is defending the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dickenson tries to clinch there but Someer circles away.
Dickenson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Someer swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Dickenson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Someer manages to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Dickenson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Someer throws a sloppy head kick

and Dickenson counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Someer looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Someer keeping moving, preventing Dickenson from controlling successfully.

Someer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Dickenson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dickenson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Someer lands a nice short elbow.
Someer blocks the strikes from Dickenson.

Someer is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Someer misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Someer stuffs the takedown.

Someer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Someer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dickenson dives on top into guard.

Dickenson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Someer has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dickenson has managed to get both his arms back between Someer's legs - danger averted.
Dickenson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Someer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Someer is working an open guard so Dickenson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Dickenson wants to clinch.

Dickenson shoots for a takedown but Someer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Dickenson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Someer throws a head kick that misses.
Dickenson looks to land a combination. Someer sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Dickenson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Someer sprawls well initially but Dickenson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Dickenson will probably get the nod.

Dickenson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Someer did well to prevent Dickenson getting side control.
Someer is pressing down on Dickenson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Dickenson drops back looking for a leg! Someer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Someer manages to kick Dickenson off! Dickenson jumps back into Someer's guard.

Dickenson tries to free his leg and advance position but Someer is retaining full guard.
Someer wants to sweep here but Dickenson controlling him for the moment.
Dickenson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Someer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dickenson defends it easily.

Someer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dickenson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dickenson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Someer is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

and Dickenson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Someer goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Someer tries to clinch but Dickenson moves out of range.

and Dickenson counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Someer wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Someer tries to circle away but Dickenson has him pinned against the ropes.
Someer has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Dickenson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Someer wants to get back to striking at distance but Dickenson won't allow it.

Someer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dickenson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Someer to the mat. Someer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

John Dickenson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dickenson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Someer!

Dickenson wants to finish this one by submission but Someer is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Dickenson.

John Dickenson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dickenson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
