The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomes slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Chaves gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gomes to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Chaves is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gomes is staying active underneath Chaves, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gomes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Chaves's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Chaves's back!

Gomes is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
I really don't envy Chaves right now.

Gomes has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Chaves has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Chaves is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Gomes gets his way!

Chaves is trying to defend against the choke here but Gomes has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Gomes Tightens the hold and Chaves taps out furiously! Gomes displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
