PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and YB Sol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Enter Sandman. Sol has chosen SFIV - Theme of Ryu 2 as his entrance music. YB Sol will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tom Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, YB Sol!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Jones there as he acknowledges the shot.
Sol walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Jones checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Sol scores with a jab.
Sol has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Jones.
Sol tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Jones takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Jones closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Jones wants a takedown.
Sol wants to break the clinch but can't.

Jones connects with a nasty looking knee right to Sol's face.
Jones stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

A frustrated look appears on Sol's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Jones is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sol pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sol wants to break free but Jones has control.
Jones throws an elbow but it misses.
Jones misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Sol.

Jones has Sol pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sol manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Jones has Sol pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jones pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Sol tumbling to the mat - Jones dives into Sol's guard.

Jones on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Sol. Sol obviously looking to wear him down.

Jones has managed to clinch.
Jones using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Sol has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Sol is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Jones has Sol pressed against the cage, preventing Sol from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Jones keeps control of Sol as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sol stalling in the clinch but Jones improves position.
The referee is keeping an eye on Sol - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Jones creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Sol is fighting off a takedown attempt but Jones is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sol to the mat. Sol regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jones is working for a submission of some sort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jones clinches but Sol breaks the clinch
letting Sol counter with a right hand.
Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Jones has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Sol finds it's way round the side to connect with Jones's head.

Jones gets a clinch.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Sol gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Jones drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sol pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jones swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Sol fails to land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sol works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Sol throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sol throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sol throws a hook but Jones blocks it.
Sol keeps the fight on the outside.

Jones closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jones lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sol preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Sol is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him.
Jones throws and elbow that misses. Sol uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Sol!

Sol wants to pass the guard but Jones is keeping the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tom Jones will probably get the nod.

Jones takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Sol lands a nice hook to Jones's body. Jones takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Jones moves out of range of the strikes.
Jones thows a body shot but no joy.
Sol feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Jones's calf.
Jones tries to clinch but Sol is having none of it.

Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Sol which made him look bad.

Sol is looking to control Jones's arms but Jones gets an underhook and turns him. Now Sol has his back to the cage.

Sol breaks from the clinch.
Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sol circles away quickly and effectively.
Jones tries to clinch
and Sol counters with a nice uppercut.
Nice uppercut lands for Sol. That snapped Jones's head back.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sol but Sol pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Sol cracks Jones with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Jones is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sol is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sol has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tom Jones.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
