PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Connely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armstrong has chosen We Were Soldiers by Sgt. Mackenzie as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Connely!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Craig Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connely shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Connely shoots for a double leg takedown but Armstrong sprawls well. He's pushed Connely's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Connely fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Connely. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Armstrong lunges at Connely with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Connely's hand.


It looks like Dan Connely has been cut.

Armstrong catches Connely napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Connely to the canvas!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Armstrong got a little sloppy there for a moment and Connely has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Armstrong has managed to get both his arms back between Connely's legs - danger averted.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Connely, as that shot connected.

Connely closes the distance and clinches.

Armstrong manages to break the clinch.
Armstrong ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Connely scores with a hook to the body. Armstrong takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Armstrong moves into the clinch.

Connely jumps into guard, dragging Armstrong to the mat.

Connely looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Connely lands an upkick as Armstrong stands over him.
Connely manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Armstrong tries to lock up and control but Connely gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Connely throws a looping overhand right but Armstrong ducks down to avoid it.

Connely throws a jab but it's blocked by Armstrong.

Armstrong steps into range and cracks Connely with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Connely flops backwards and Armstrong dives into his guard looking to finish!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Armstrong is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Armstrong is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Connely couldn't care less - he's delighted!
