The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meirelles misses with a takedown attempt - Lommer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Lommer tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Lommer buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Lommer steps into range and cracks Meirelles with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Meirelles flops backwards and Lommer dives into his guard looking to finish!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lommer uses his free foot to push down on Meirelles's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Meirelles.
Meirelles wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lommer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Lommer throws a series of punches but Meirelles avoids them all with ease.

Meirelles should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Lommer throws a nice looking combination but Meirelles bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Meirelles lands with a nice combination. Lommer backs away looking to recover.

Meirelles fakes the leg kick and cracks Lommer in the body.

Meirelles has Lommer up against the cage in a clinch.
Meirelles is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lommer pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Lommer wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Meirelles has him pressed against the cage.

Meirelles escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Crunch! Meirelles slams his shin into Lommer's torso.
A nice leg kick lands there from Meirelles.
Meirelles with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Meirelles lands a head kick. Lommer smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Meirelles loads up on a big right hand but Lommer slips the punch.
Lommer will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Meirelles dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Lommer. That did some damage!

Meirelles lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
A head kick misses from Meirelles.
Lommer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Meirelles tries to clinch but Lommer is having none of it.

Meirelles shoots in but no luck this time.
Meirelles misses with a hook. Lommer ducked under it nicely.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Meirelles, right into the meat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Meirelles.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Lommer counters with a thumping low kick.

and Lommer counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Meirelles down! Lommer is looking to finish but Meirelles is intelligently defending himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
