PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Captain Beefheart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beefheart comes to the cage accompanied by Yellow Snow. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Captain Beefheart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beefheart scores with a head kick.


It looks like Ryan Patterson has been cut.
No luck for Patterson with that takedown attempt.
Beefheart scores with a push kick.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Patterson crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Beefheart - the referee stops the clock and Patterson gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Beefheart. Patterson manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Patterson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Beefheart sprawls well. Beefheart wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Patterson gets slowly back to his feet.
Patterson fails with a takedown attempt.
Captain Beefheart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Patterson.
Patterson looks gassed!
Beefheart slaps away a takedown attempt from Patterson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Beefheart is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Beefheart tries to land knees in the clinch but Patterson avoids the damage to the body.

Beefheart breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Beefheart tries to close the distance and clinch up but Patterson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Beefheart gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Beefheart has Patterson pressed against the cage.
Beefheart tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Beefheart pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Patterson looking for a takedown.

Beefheart pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Patterson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Beefheart as he jumps to the side.

Beefheart scores a takedown into full mount!
Beefheart is landing with some decent strikes but Patterson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Beefheart wants to control the pace but Patterson is squirming around nicely.

Beefheart has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Beefheart get's back to his feet.

Beefheart fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Patterson sprawls well initially but Beefheart persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Beefheart is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Patterson is looking to control Beefheart's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Patterson avoid being mounted?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Beefheart tries to stand and escape but Patterson is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Beefheart looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Patterson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Patterson with a lazy takedown attempt
and Beefheart makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Patterson really felt that one!
Beefheart tries to clinch up but Patterson circles away and keeps his distance.
Beefheart connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Patterson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Captain Beefheart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Beefheart is looking to clinch.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Beefheart.
Patterson shoots for a double leg takedown but Beefheart sprawls well. He's pushed Patterson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Beefheart shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Patterson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Patterson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Patterson wants to control but Beefheart is keeping busy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Beefheart can't keep his opponent in guard - Patterson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Patterson is working for a kimura but Beefheart is defending it quite comfortably.
Patterson thows a huge punch but Beefheart dodges it nicely.

Beefheart is trying to maintain the position but Patterson is very close to passing his half guard.
Patterson throwing shots but Beefheart is blocking nicely.
Patterson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Beefheart regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Patterson.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Beefheart has momentary wrist control but Patterson slips an elbow through the middle.
Beefheart manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Patterson manages to get himself to full guard.
Patterson has control of Beefheart's left arm, preventing Beefheart from doing any damage.

Patterson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Beefheart is aware though and is defending well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Beefheart is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Captain Beefheart overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Beefheart is looking to stand up but Patterson won't let him.

Captain Beefheart showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Beefheart has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
