The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarado throws a combination. Penn tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like Bj Penn has been cut.
Penn shoots in and drives through. Alvarado sprawls well.
Alvarado misses the shot to the body.
Alvarado lets loose with a powerful body kick. Penn will feel that in the morning.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alvarado has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Penn's face.
Penn is in all sorts of trouble here.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Alvarado is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Penn can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Alvarado is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Penn manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Alvarado wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.

Penn is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Alvarado has his hands clasped together but Penn extends an breaks Alvarado's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Penn.
