PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brendon Luke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Umber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brendon Luke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Umber!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Umber shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Luke as he avoids it easily.
Umber swats away the attempt to clinch by Luke.
Umber tries to score a power double leg takedown but Luke sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Umber somewhat.
Luke feints and then cracks Umber's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Umber down.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Luke is defended easily by Umber.
Umber shoots in and drives through. Luke sprawls well.
Brendon Luke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Umber.
Luke pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Umber closes the distance and clinches up with Luke, looking for a takedown. Umber pushes Luke against the cage but Luke circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Umber circles away from the clinch attempt.
Umber tries to bum rush Luke with a series of wild strikes but Luke uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Luke lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Umber backs up against the cage.


It looks like John Umber has been cut.

and Luke cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Luke clinches with his opponent.

Luke tightens his grip and picks Umber up, before dumping him to the ground. Umber manages to land in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Luke wanted to stand there but Umber had control of the position.

Luke stands up from Umber's guard - Luke perhaps looking for a knockout.
Luke fails with the takedown

and Umber counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Luke wants to get back to his feet.
Luke is breathing heavily.
Umber trying to control the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Luke blocking the ground and pound attempt from Umber.
Luke is trying to stand back up but Umber is controlling him
Umber trying to control the action but Luke is working from the bottom.

Luke pushes Umber off and gets back to his feet.
Luke keeps the fight on the outside.
Luke is trying hard to land a takedown here. Umber sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Umber looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Umber shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Umber in particular looking to stall.
Umber passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Luke!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Umber has his takedown stuffed

so Luke counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Luke has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Umber is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Umber is trying to keep Luke in close.
Umber has Luke pulled in close to control his posture.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Umber tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Luke gets to his feet - Umber follows without any prompting.
Umber throws a right and a left that Luke avoids nicely.
Umber throws a head kick but Luke moves out of range.

and Umber decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Luke's guard.

Luke has his feet on Umber's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Umber dives in and grabs Luke's left leg, looking for a takedown. Luke pushes down on Umber's head and hops out.

Umber closes the distance and clinches up with Luke, looking for a takedown. Umber pushes Luke against the cage but Luke circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Luke's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Luke duly obliges.

Umber shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Luke pinned against the cage. Luke gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Luke tries to circle away but Umber has him pinned against the cage.
Luke keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Umber's efforts to push away.
Umber jumps guard but Luke stands there with Umber around his waist. Umber gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Umber drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Luke gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Luke breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Luke fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Brendon Luke is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Luke swats away the attempt to clinch by Umber.
Luke displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Umber.

and Umber counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Umber.

Luke ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Luke no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

and Luke counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

and Luke counters with a two punch combo.
John Umber has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Brendon Luke is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

John Umber comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
