PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Morote Gari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Ripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jack Ripper was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Morote Gari!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Ripper!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Daniel Bishop and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot lands for Gari.
Ripper throws a shot to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ripper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Ripper darts in and clinches Gari up against the ropes.
Gari prevents Ripper from breaking the clinch.

Ripper pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gari throws a head kick but Ripper moves out of range.
Gari looks to land a combination but Ripper avoids it well.
A nice leg kick lands there from Gari.
Ripper tries to clinch up but Gari circles away and keeps his distance.
Ripper tries to close the distance and clinch but Gari swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Ripper throws the kick towards the body but Gari avoids it.

Gari just misses with a punch to the body.
Ripper stuffs the takedown.
Gari throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ripper.
A chopping leg kick lands by Gari.
Gari thumps Ripper with a low kick.
Gari fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ripper manages to avoid it.
Gari stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gari wants it to stay on the feet.

Ripper looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gari!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gari manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Ripper thows a huge punch but Gari dodges it nicely.

Gari has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ripper can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gari manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Gari postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ripper looks a forlorn figure.

Gari can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ripper is looking to escape.
Ripper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gari. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gari wants to finish this one by submission but Ripper is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gari.

Gari jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ripper manages to avoid the submission attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ripper prevents Gari from moving into mount.
Ripper tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gari wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ripper can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gari thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Gari advances to full mount.
Gari controlling the pace for now.
Gari avoids the attempt from Ripper to control.
Ripper slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Gari is looking to advance position but Ripper won't allow it.
Ripper wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gari working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Gari seems to be working for a kimura but Ripper defends the submission attempt.

Gari is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ripper is just riding it out for now. Gari eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Morote Gari dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Gari throws a head kick but Ripper moves out of range.
Gari is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Ripper.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Gari here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
A combination from Gari does no damage.
Gari throws a right and a left that both miss.
Ripper misses with a head kick.
Gari is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A thudding body kick lands there by Gari!

Gari shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gari was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Ripper is trying desperately to improve position.
Gari looking to control but Ripper is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Ripper is breathing heavily.

Gari is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Ripper is covering up but some of the strikes from Gari are getting through and doing damage.

Gari has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Ripper has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Gari wants to control but Ripper is keeping busy.

Gari is working for a rear naked choke. Ripper is not defending it well and Gari has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Ripper refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Ripper's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Morote Gari!
