PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesnar has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ben Ward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brock Lesnar!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ward misses with the combination.
Lesnar looks gassed!
Lesnar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ward looks for a takedown but Lesnar sprawls well.
Ward shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lesnar as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Ward. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lesnar misses with a combination

and Ward counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ward.
Ward wanted to stand there but Lesnar had control of the position.

Lesnar pushes Ward off and gets back to his feet.
Lesnar avoids a punch combination nicely.

Ward misses with a two punch combination.

Ward looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lesnar on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Lesnar slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Ward has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ward avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lesnar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ward won't allow Lesnar to get back to his feet.
Lesnar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ward postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ward knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lesnar on the ground.

Ward looking to sit in guard and control but Lesnar gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Lesnar won't allow Ward to sweep him here.
Lesnar passes into half guard.
Lesnar slips a nice elbow through Ward's hands, connecting with Ward's forehead.
Ward is trying to stand up here but Lesnar is controlling him well.
Ward moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Lesnar postures up in Ward's guard and throws a big left but Ward blocks it.

Ward is looking for a triangle but Lesnar pushes his legs off easily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Ward tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lesnar swivels and escapes.

Ward closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ward lands in his opponent's guard.
Ward wants to stand but Lesnar has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Lesnar lands some strikes from the bottom.
Ward wants to control from the top but Lesnar keeps moving.

Ward lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Ward looking to pass the guard.
Ward would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Ward keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lesnar's head.
Ward stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lesnar swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lesnar has a closed guard, preventing Ward from standing up.
Ward looking to sit in guard and control but Lesnar gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Ward dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ward shoots in but no luck this time.
Ward fails with the takedown.
Ward is looking to clinch but Lesnar is avoiding it.
Ward changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lesnar tries to avoid it but Ward manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lesnar to the ground. Lesnar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Ward. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lesnar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ward shoots in for a double leg but Lesnar sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ward throws a left and a right that both miss
and Lesnar counters with a nice body kick.

Ward gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Lesnar is trying to break free.
Lesnar is breathing heavily.

Ward is working for takedown but Lesnar is calmly controlling the position for now.
Lesnar throws a punch but it's blocked by Ward.

Ward has picked Lesnar up - he's going for a ride! Ward dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Ward seems to be working for a kimura but Lesnar defends the submission attempt.
Ward tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Lesnar.
Lesnar missing with punches from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ward landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Ward is working for a submission of some sort.

Lesnar makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Ward looks for a takedown but Lesnar sprawls well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ward tries for a takedown but Lesnar sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Ward shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ward showed some decent athleticism there.

Lesnar manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Ward shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lesnar is squirming around, avoiding Ward's attempts to control the action.
Ward is really struggling to control Lesnar but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Lesnar tries to reverse the position but Ward maintains control.
Ward tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Lesnar bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Lesnar scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Lesnar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lesnar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ward wants to sweep here but Lesnar controlling him for the moment.

Ward is looking for a triangle but Lesnar pushes his legs off easily.

Ward had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Lesnar is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ward Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Lesnar's back instead.

You can see the frustration on Lesnar's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ward lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Ward lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Ward.
Lesnar rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Ward wants to stand up but Lesnar manages to regain full guard.

Lesnar scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Ward shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lesnar's guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ben Ward will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Lesnar wants to stand up but Ward is controlling him.
Ward preventing the sweep.

Ward is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Lesnar has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Ward is looking to defend but Lesnar has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Ward! Lesnar pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Ward taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Brock Lesnar!
