PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jukka Face (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Lindstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lindstrom has chosen Immortal - Call Of The Wintermoon as his entrance music. Lindstrom has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. James Lindstrom is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lindstrom doesn't manage to clinch there - Face circles away.

Face closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Lindstrom did well to prevent Face getting side control.
Face content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Face stands up out of the half guard.
Lindstrom lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Lindstrom.

Face has managed to clinch.
Lindstrom lands an uppercut.
Face has had enough of the clinch but Lindstrom keeps him there for the moment.

Face jumps into guard, dragging Lindstrom to the mat.
Lindstrom wants to control from the top but Face keeps moving.

Face has his foot on Lindstrom's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lindstrom works his way back into a safe position though.
Lindstrom throws a strike but Face rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Face is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Face in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Face controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Face passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Face tries to advance to mount but can't.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Face tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lindstrom knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Face slips a nice elbow through Lindstrom's hands, connecting with Lindstrom's forehead.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lindstrom has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Face is working away from the top position though.
Face content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Face moves nicely into side control.
Lindstrom tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Face wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Face drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Face seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Face is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Face slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Face might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jukka Face just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Jukka Face overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Face really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Lindstrom.

Face could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Lindstrom breaks Face's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Face doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Lindstrom trying to stand up but can't free himself from Face's guard.

Face throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Lindstrom stands and steps away. Face gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Lindstrom throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Face shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Lindstrom manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Face bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Lindstrom is trying to control Face's posture but Face avoids it.

Lindstrom is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Face controlling the pace for now.
Lindstrom is desperately trying to improve his position but Face has a good base and remains in mount.
Lindstrom is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lindstrom tries to buck Face off but Face takes his back!
Face lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

Face is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Lindstrom manages to stand up with Face still on his back. Eventually Face drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.

and Face counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Face has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Lindstrom is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Face is looking for a sweep. Lindstrom is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lindstrom wants to free his trapped foot but Face is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Face closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Face keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Lindstrom's efforts to push away.
Face tries to break free but Lindstrom pushes him back against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Face - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Face is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Lindstrom is defending well for now.
Lindstrom has had enough of the clinch but Face keeps him there for the moment.
James Lindstrom has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jukka Face is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Face, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
