Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andre Persson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien Sousa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andre Persson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Damien Sousa!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sousa misses with a straight left.
Sousa on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Persson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sousa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sousa blocks a head kick by Persson.
Persson keeps the fight on the outside.
Sousa misses with a takedown attempt - Persson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Persson tries to clinch but Sousa moves away

and Sousa counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sousa.
Persson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Persson blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Persson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sousa prevents it.

Sousa has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Persson uses from the top position.

Persson slips nicely into half guard.
Persson prevents Sousa from improving his position.
Persson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sousa keeps working.
Sousa is looking to control Persson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sousa avoid being mounted?

Sousa wants to control but Persson is keeping busy.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Persson punching from mount but Sousa doing a good job of avoiding damage.

Persson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sousa can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Sousa really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Persson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Sousa keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Persson gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Sousa gets the takedown into side control.

Sousa decides to stand up, so the ref orders Persson to his feet.
Persson closes the distance but Sousa moves to the side

and Sousa counters with a shoot takedown. Persson fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sousa looks gassed!

Sousa decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Persson, up you get!
Persson thuds a left hand into Sousa's body.
Persson darts in trying to clinch

and Sousa counters with a nice double leg into side control. Persson won't be happy with that.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Persson sneaks back into half guard.
Persson wants to sweep but Sousa has passed to side control!
Persson is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Sousa passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Persson!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Persson is looking to get to half guard.
Sousa scoring with strikes but Persson is staying in there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Sousa dominated that round.

Persson misses with a wild body shot.
Persson throws a sloppy head kick and Sousa moves out of range easily.
Sousa fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Persson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Persson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Persson throws a head kick but Sousa moves out of range.
Sousa tries to clinch but Persson is having none of it.

and Sousa counters by moving into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Sousa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Persson's guard.

Persson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Sousa wants to stand but Persson is controlling his posture from full guard.
Persson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sousa wants to control from the top but Persson keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sousa looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Persson trying to keep a closed guard but Sousa is proving a slippery customer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Persson throws a lazy head kick
and Sousa counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sousa has a takedown stuffed.

Sousa fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sousa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Persson's waist but Persson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sousa off to one side.
Andre Persson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damien Sousa.
Persson throws a right hand that Sousa ducks under and follows up with a left that Sousa also avoids with ease.
Sousa tries to close the distance and clinch up but Persson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Persson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and Sousa counters by moving into the clinch.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Persson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Persson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sousa smiles and moves away.
Persson leaves Sousa with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Sousa counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Sousa ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sousa no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Persson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sousa is proving hard to escape from.

Damien Sousa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Persson wants to clinch up but Sousa keeps it at a distance.

Sousa shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Persson is trying to defend but Sousa finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Sousa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Persson keeps working.
Persson is trying to get back to full guard.
Sousa not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Damien Sousa has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sousa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Persson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Persson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Sousa drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Persson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sousa has Persson in his guard.

Persson has gone for a leg lock! Sousa slips out almost immediately though and dives into Persson's guard.

Sousa gets to his feet. Persson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Andre Persson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Persson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sousa shoots in but Persson avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Persson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Sousa clinches with his opponent.
Persson has Sousa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sousa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Sousa manages to pull guard.

Sousa throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Persson wants to stand and escape but instead Sousa has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Persson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sousa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sousa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Damien Sousa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Sousa winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
