PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mad Hatter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Roc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mad Hatter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Roc!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Damien Edna and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Hatter. No joy for Roc on that attempt.
Hatter throws a right and a left that Roc avoids nicely.
Roc fails with the takedown.
Roc closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hatter circles away.
Mad Hatter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Roc.
Roc tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Roc shoots in but no luck this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roc connects with a high kick.


It looks like Mad Hatter has been cut.
Hatter leaves Roc with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hatter thuds his right hand into Roc's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Roc fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Roc misses with a combination
and Hatter counters with a left to the body.
Roc looks for a takedown but Hatter sprawls well.
Roc looks gassed!
Roc has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Roc shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hatter as he avoids it easily.

Roc is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hatter.


It looks like John Roc has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Roc dodges the punch combination from Hatter.
Hatter uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Roc has time to react.
Roc is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Roc throws a leg kick which misses Hatter's front leg but catches the back leg as Hatter tries to avoid it.
Roc fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Hatter fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Roc on the side of the head.
Roc dodges the punch combination from Hatter.
Roc pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hatter connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Roc momentarily.
Roc fails with a takedown attempt.

Roc tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hatter looks to land a combination but Roc avoids it well.
Roc avoids a punch combination nicely.
Roc misses with a body kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Roc throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hatter's waist but Hatter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Roc off to one side.
Hatter throws a right and a left that Roc avoids nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mad Hatter dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Roc tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hatter paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Roc defending well as Hatter loads up on a big left hand.
Roc misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Roc clinches but Hatter breaks the clinch
and Hatter counters with a straight right hand.
Mad Hatter is winning the standup battle so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roc falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hatter counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Roc is breathing heavily.
Roc slips under a jab from Hatter.

Roc changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hatter tries to avoid it but Roc manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hatter to the ground. Hatter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hatter's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Hatter duly obliges.
Roc tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hatter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Roc somewhat.
Mad Hatter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Roc.
Hatter keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hatter lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Roc shoots in and drives through. Hatter sprawls well.
Hatter keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Hatter takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
John Roc seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Roc bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Roc fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hatter scores with a sloppy right hand. Roc should have avoided that one.

Roc looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Roc looks to land a body kick but Hatter moved away.
Hatter stalks Roc and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Roc's face. Roc staggers backwards, shaken.
Hatter catches Roc with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Hatter lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Roc lands a front kick.
Roc fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nice jab there from Hatter.
Hatter connects with the punch.
Hatter swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mad Hatter dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Hatter here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hatter tests Roc's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Roc shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hatter pinned against the cage. Hatter gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hatter is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Roc tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hatter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Roc somewhat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hatter connects with a good right hand that stumbles Roc. Roc circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Roc is trying desperately to land a takedown but Hatter is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Roc.
Roc tries for a takedown but Hatter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Hatter throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Roc on the side of the head.
Roc shoots for a double leg takedown but Hatter sprawls well. He's pushed Roc's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Roc pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A jab from Hatter finds it's way through Roc's defenses.
Hatter scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Roc.
Roc tries to close the distance and clinch but Hatter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
John Roc has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mad Hatter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hatter scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

And that's the end of the fight!
Mad Hatter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hatter has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
