PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Punisher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Mould (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James Punisher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Mould!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mould closes the distance and pushes Punisher back into the cage.
Mould digs a right hand underneath Punisher's ribcage. Punisher let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Punisher breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Mould bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Punisher struggling a bit here.
Punisher is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mould is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Mould decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Mould fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Punisher, pushing him back against the cage.

Mould ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mould no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Punisher trying to control but Mould is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Punisher looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Punisher trying to control the position from guard on top but Mould is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mould is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Punisher is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mould is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Punisher trying to control the position from guard on top but Mould is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Punisher has managed to clinch.
Mould changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Punisher fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Punisher has his takedown stuffed

and Mould counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Mould works his way into full mount!

Mould looking to secure an arm triangle but Punisher defends it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Punisher is trying to escape the mount.
Punisher wants to hold on but Mould pushes him away.
Punisher working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Punisher tries to lock up and control but Mould gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Mould controlling his opponent.
Mould prevents Punisher from getting the reversal.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Punisher wants to get back to his feet.
Mould trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Punisher looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Mould is trying to stick to Punisher's back but Punisher is turning into Mould. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mould's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Punisher.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Mould dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Punisher tries for a takedown but Mould circles away easily

and Mould counters with a takedown into side control.
Punisher is not content to let Mould control the position.

Mould decides to stand back up. Mould steps back and let's Punisher get back to his feet.

and Mould decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Punisher's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Punisher looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Punisher is looking to stand up but Mould isn't so interested in that idea.
Mould passes Punisher's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Mould is breathing heavily.

Mould prevents Punisher from improving his position.
Mould perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Punisher wants to get back to his feet.
Punisher trying to control but Mould postures up.
Punisher tries to roll over but Mould keeps him under control.
Dave Mould has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mould is controlling the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Punisher moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Punisher trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Punisher working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mould.
Punisher trying to keep a closed guard but Mould is proving a slippery customer.
Punisher really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mould stops Punisher from standing up.
Mould trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Punisher looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Punisher knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mould on the ground.
Punisher preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Some wild striking there from Punisher.

Mould closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Punisher tries to bench press Mould off him but Mould keeps the position.
Punisher manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Mould on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Mould is refusing to be controlled, as Punisher sits in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Punisher stalling.
Punisher is keen to just control but Mould is a slippery customer.
Punisher prevents Mould from improving his position.
Punisher is looking to take a break and control but Mould is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Mould showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Punisher darts in trying to clinch

Mould cracks Punisher with a big elbow.
Punisher can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee stands the fighters back up. James Punisher just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Mould will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Some wild striking there from Punisher.
Punisher moves out of range of the body kick.
Horrible takedown by Mould or perhaps it was just good defense by Punisher which made him look bad.
Punisher looks to land a combination. Mould sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Dave Mould has been cut.
Mould takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Punisher has his takedown stuffed
and Mould counters with a left and a right that stings Punisher.
Both fighters circling a little - Punisher finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Punisher is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mould's half guard.
Punisher is looking to take a break and control but Mould is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mould pushes Punisher off but Punisher dives into side control.

Punisher decides to stand back up. Punisher steps back and let's Mould get back to his feet.
A nice leg kick lands there from Punisher.
Mould swats away the attempt to clinch by Punisher.

Punisher tries for a takedown but Mould circles away easily

and Mould decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Punisher's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Punisher wants to stand up but Mould is controlling him.
Punisher keeping moving, preventing Mould from controlling successfully.
Punisher tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mould trying to control but Punisher is working from the bottom.
Punisher is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Punisher had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mould defends it easily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mould shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Punisher shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mould is trying to defend but Punisher finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Punisher works his way into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Punisher is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mould knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mould is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Punisher's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Punisher throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to James Punisher.
I think Mould has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
