Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Kasper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, John Kasper!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, David Schapiro and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Kasper shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smith but Smith pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Smith misses with a low kick.
Steve Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith misses with a head kick.
Kasper closes this distance looking for a takedown but Smith circles away.
Smith throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kasper sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kasper takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Kasper forces Smith back against the cage and clinches.

Kasper breaks from the clinch.
Kasper takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Smith tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kasper was well out of range. Poor timing from Smith.
Smith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Smith wants it to stay on the feet.
Steve Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Kasper.
Kasper takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Decent striking displayed by Smith there.
Kasper misses with the combination.
Smith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Smith works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Smith throws a looping overhand right but Kasper ducks down to avoid it.
Smith tries to clinch up but Kasper circles away and keeps his distance.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kasper tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Kasper moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kasper if he has to take too many more of those.
Kasper takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Smith connects with a nice looking jab.
Smith tries to bum rush Kasper with a series of wild strikes but Kasper uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Smith missing with a left hand there. Kasper was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Smith scores with a punch to the head.
Smith throws a big shot that misses.
Smith misses with a straight right.
Kasper fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Smith is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Smith throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Smith sizes up Kasper with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Kasper fails with an attempt to clinch.
Smith lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Smith lands with an overhand left.
Kasper doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.

Kasper shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Smith tries to get to full guard but Kasper has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Kasper has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Kasper controlling his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith is squirming around, avoiding Kasper's attempts to control the action.
Smith is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Smith working to try and regain half guard.
Smith tries to lock up and control but Kasper gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Smith is working to get back to half guard.
Kasper controlling the pace for now.
Smith is looking to get to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kasper tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Smith dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Smith scores with a nice head shot.
Kasper takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Kasper lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Smith circles away quickly and effectively.
Smith swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Smith waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kasper.
Kasper is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.
Smith missing with a left hand there. Kasper was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Smith is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Smith jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Kasper throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Smith was covering up waiting for the punch and Kasper finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Smith is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kasper must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Smith is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kasper avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Smith.
Smith not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Kasper is trying to stand.
Smith misses with a head shot. Kasper uses the momentum to regain guard.
Kasper keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Kasper is keeping the position.
Smith throwing strikes but missing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith misses with a looping left.
Kasper throws a left and a right that both miss
and Smith counters with a stiff right hand.
Kasper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Smith swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kasper walks into a left hand.
Smith darts in trying to clinch

and Kasper counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smith won't be happy with that.
Smith tries to control but Kasper manages to take his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Smith is really stuck here.
Kasper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kasper just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Kasper is trying to stick to Smith's back but Smith is turning into Kasper. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Kasper's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Smith.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Smith wants to control from the top but Kasper keeps moving.
Smith prevents Kasper from getting back to his feet.
Smith lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Kasper working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Smith.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Kasper gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Smith wants to sweep here but Kasper controlling him for the moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kasper defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but John Kasper will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Kasper drives through with a takedown into guard.
Smith not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kasper wants to stand but Smith has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Smith looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Smith is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Kasper frees his head nicely. Oh but Smith has switched to an armbar! Kasper is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
