PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Alcano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Allie Potratz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alcano kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Three Stars & A Sun. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Alcano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Allie Potratz!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alcano circles away from the clinch attempt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Potratz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alcano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Alcano has hold of Potratz's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Potratz manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Alcano has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Alcano gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alcano stands and steps away. Potratz gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Alcano counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Potratz's guard now.


Potratz is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Alcano advances to half guard.

Alcano stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Alcano tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alcano has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Alcano has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Alcano tries to score with a low kick but Potratz moves his leg out of the way.

Alcano gets the takedown into side control.
Alcano has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Potratz!
Potratz really wants to buck Alcano off and get back to his feet.

Potratz slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Alcano stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Potratz to get to his feet.

Potratz gets caught flat footed, as Alcano shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Potratz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Alcano is refusing to be controlled, as Potratz sits in half guard.

Alcano is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Potratz has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Potratz!

Jose Alcano overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Potratz tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Alcano is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Potratz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Potratz's back!

Potratz won't enjoy being in this position. Alcano looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Potratz is tapping - it's over boys! Alcano picks up the submission victory!
