PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Roosevelt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul Paul told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Frank Roosevelt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Paul Paul!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roosevelt clinches with his opponent.
Roosevelt gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Paul.
Roosevelt tries for a takedown but Paul manages to get underhooks.

Paul unloads with some shots from mount but Roosevelt bucks and avoids them well.
Paul wants to control the pace but Roosevelt is squirming around nicely.

The referee warns Roosevelt that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Roosevelt throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Paul was covering up waiting for the punch and Roosevelt finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Roosevelt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Paul ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Roosevelt moves away.
Paul avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A nice leg kick lands there from Roosevelt.
Roosevelt throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Roosevelt tries a head kick but it misses.

Paul tries to clinch up but Roosevelt circles away and keeps his distance.

and Roosevelt counters with a body kick that stops Paul in his tracks momentarily.
Roosevelt buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Roosevelt moves into the clinch.

Roosevelt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Roosevelt drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Frank Roosevelt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Paul looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Paul is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Roosevelt is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Roosevelt dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Roosevelt misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Roosevelt tries to clinch up but Paul circles away and keeps his distance.
Roosevelt scoring well with a low kick there.
Roosevelt is looking to slow Paul down with leg kicks.
Paul keeps the fight on the outside.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Paul crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Roosevelt - the referee stops the clock and Paul gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Roosevelt. Paul manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Roosevelt turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Roosevelt throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Paul's head.
Paul takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A chopping leg kick lands by Roosevelt.
Roosevelt changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Paul tries to avoid it but Roosevelt manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Paul to the ground. Paul escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Paul changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Roosevelt looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Roosevelt is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Paul is controlling him well.
Roosevelt gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Roosevelt regains half guard.
Paul not landing any meaningful shots this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Roosevelt is staying active underneath Paul, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Paul throws a strike but Roosevelt avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Roosevelt pushes Paul off and scrambles back to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Roosevelt.

Roosevelt throws a right and a left that both miss.

Paul chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Roosevelt can pounce on him.

Paul gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Roosevelt to score an easy takedown into full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Paul keeping moving, preventing Roosevelt from controlling successfully.

Roosevelt stands and steps away. Paul gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Roosevelt with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Roosevelt prevents a takedown attempt there.

Roosevelt has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Paul is trying to keep an underhook but Roosevelt manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Roosevelt is looking to pass Paul's guard but actually Paul recovers to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Roosevelt showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Roosevelt has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
