PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Salvador Dali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Babcock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Babcock's choice of entrance music: Headstrong. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Salvador Dali!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Babcock!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Babcock changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dali tries to avoid it but Babcock manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dali to the ground. Dali escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dali throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Dali misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Dali shoots and misses

and Babcock counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Dali gets back to full guard.
Babcock is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Dali looking for a guillotine here but Babcock defends easily.
Babcock pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dali is keeping the position for now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dali is on top in guard.

Dali drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Babcock manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dali has Babcock in his guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dali keeping moving, preventing Babcock from controlling successfully.
Dali looking to hit a scissor sweep but Babcock is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dali isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Babcock stacks Dali on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Babcock!
Babcock wants to stand but Dali is controlling his arm.
Dali tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Babcock wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Dali sneaks back into half guard.
Babcock seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Dali looking for submissions off his back.
Dali is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Babcock is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Dali makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dali.
Babcock keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Dali's head.

Dali has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Babcock can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Babcock stands up and waves to Dali to follow him.

Babcock drives through and clinches with Dali against the cage.
Dali is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Babcock holding his opponent close, against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Babcock tries to pull guard but Dali won't allow it.
Babcock has Dali pushed against the cage.
Dali tries to pull guard but Babcock holds him up against the cage and eventually Dali drops back down to his feet.
Dali can't break the clinch.
Babcock tries to pull guard but Dali holds him up against the cage and eventually Babcock drops back down to his feet.
Salvador Dali has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Babcock.

Babcock breaks the clinch.
Dali throws the left hand but Babcock avoids the punch easily.
Dali shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dali takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Dali takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Babcock with a poor takedown

Dali throws a hook but Babcock avoids it easily.
Dali misses with a takedown
and Dali takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Babcock shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dali is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Babcock pulls his head out easily.
Dali gets full guard.

Dali pushes a forearm under Babcock's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Babcock is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Salvador Dali!
