Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yoshihiro Akiyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Evan Wood!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Anthony Taglia and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akiyama fails to land the takedown.
Akiyama closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Wood throws a jab when Akiyama was well out of range.
Wood is looking to land body kicks.
Akiyama knocks Wood to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?
Wood is rocked!
Akiyama lands a few punches from side control.
Wood is still in real trouble! Can Akiyama finish him?
Akiyama tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Wood seems to have recovered his senses.
Akiyama thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Wood is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Wood struggling a bit here.
Wood is trying to buck Akiyama off.
Akiyama is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wood is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Akiyama tries for a kimura but Wood is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Wood sneaks back into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
The fighters are battling for position here. Wood manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Wood manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Akiyama manages to get himself to full guard.
Akiyama is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Akiyama keeping moving, preventing Wood from controlling successfully.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wood accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Wood with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Wood gets to his feet - Akiyama follows without any prompting.
Akiyama is breathing heavily.
Akiyama has a takedown stuffed.
Wood scores with a decent looking hook.
Akiyama walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Wood scores with a nice strike.
Wood lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Akiyama sprawling to the canvas. Wood follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Akiyama hang on?
Akiyama is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Wood takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Oh Akiyama is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wood is keen to just control but Akiyama is a slippery customer.
Akiyama seems to have got his legs back now.
Wood has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Akiyama defend it? Wood steps over the head and cranks it - Akiyama is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Wood!
