Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Greg Birch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pat Smear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Greg Birch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pat Smear!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Columbo Gatti and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Birch shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Smear lands a two punch combo.

Birch feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Birch trying to control the position from guard on top but Smear is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Birch gets to his feet. Smear looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Smear lands a head kick!
Birch looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smear goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Smear pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Birch throws a lazy head kick
and Smear counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Birch is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Smear moves in looking to clinch but Birch pushes him off.
Birch swats away the attempt to clinch by Smear.
Birch fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smear pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Birch keeps the fight on the outside.

Birch shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Smear looking for submissions off his back.

Birch looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Birch is looking to stall here but Smear recovers full guard.
Birch has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Birch won't allow Smear to sweep him here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Birch decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Birch blocks a head kick by Smear.
Birch shoots for a double leg takedown but Smear sprawls well. He's pushed Birch's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg Birch. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smear looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Smear gets caught flat footed, as Birch shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Birch tries to free his leg and advance position but Smear is retaining full guard.

Smear looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Greg Birch dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Smear tries to close the distance and clinch up but Birch swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Birch fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Birch looks to land a combination but Smear avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smear goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Birch shoots in but no luck this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smear throws a head kick that Birch semi-blocks.
Smear pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Birch throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Smear counters with a head kick. That will keep Birch thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Greg Birch is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smear throws a sloppy head kick

and Birch counters with a single leg into guard. Smear didn't expect that.

Birch has gone for a leg lock! Smear slips out almost immediately though and dives into Birch's guard.
Smear tries to stand but Birch is controlling from the bottom.

Birch is looking for a triangle but Smear pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smear stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Birch swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Birch is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Birch wants to hit a switch here but Smear passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Birch there!
Birch is trying to reverse the position but instead Smear has taken his back - oops!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Birch can't escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Smear is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Birch is defending well though. Smear let's go of the attempt for now.

Birch manages to stand up with Smear still on his back. Eventually Smear drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.
Birch misses with a double jab
and Smear counters with a big head kick but Birch shrugs it off.
Birch blocks a head kick by Smear.
Smear throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Greg Birch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Birch shoots in but Smear avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg Birch. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smear fails with an attempt to clinch.
Smear tries to close the distance and clinch but Birch swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Birch closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Birch lands in his opponent's guard.

Smear looking for a triangle here. Birch is fighting it but it looks tight! Smear pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Birch is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Pat Smear!
