PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Garry Dupuis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dupuis comes to the cage accompanied by Warriors Of Time by Black Tide. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Garry Dupuis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joshua Turner!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Turner moves into the clinch.

Turner turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
A lull in the action here as Turner stalls from top position.
Turner tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Dupuis is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Dupuis is looking to improve his position.
Turner performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Turner is nestled in close to Dupuis, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Turner controlling the action here.
Dupuis looks like he's trying to stand up.

Turner is trying to control. Dupuis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dupuis gets back to full guard.
Turner stays in close to Dupuis's body and controls the position.
I looks like Turner might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Dupuis is trying to hold Turner in close to prevent damage but Turner has managed to pass into half guard.

Dupuis tries to roll over but Turner keeps him under control.

Dupuis is controlling Turner's trapped leg to prevent Turner from advancing to side control.

Dupuis trying to hold on to Turner's head to control him but Turner postures up.
Dupuis gets back to full guard.
Dupuis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Turner postures up.
Turner looking to sit in guard and control but Dupuis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Turner looking for a sweep. Not yet Turner, not yet.
Dupuis trying to control the position from guard on top but Turner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Dupuis shoots for a double leg takedown but Turner sprawls well. He's pushed Dupuis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A big left from Dupuis misses.
Turner looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Dupuis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Turner pinned against the cage. Turner gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
No luck for Dupuis with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Garry Dupuis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dupuis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Turner avoids it really well and circles away.

Turner fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dupuis sprawls well initially but Turner persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Dupuis wants to control but Turner is keeping busy.
Turner is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joshua Turner dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Dupuis falls off balance throwing a combination

so Turner counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Turner controlling from the top position.

Turner avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dupuis keeping full guard, as Turner tries to pass.
Turner is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Turner passes into half guard.
Turner content to control rather than advance.

Turner moves into full mount! Dupuis won't be happy about that!
Dupuis is squirming around, avoiding Turner's attempts to control the action.
Dupuis is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Dupuis tries to hold on but Turner postures up.

Dupuis is wriggling around trying to escape.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Turner controlling from mount.
Dupuis wants to control but Turner is having none of it.
Turner controlling his opponent.
Dupuis throwing hammer fists to the chest of Turner. What's that going to do exactly?

Turner controlling the pace for now.

Despite being in the dominant position, Joshua Turner just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dupuis tries to clinch up

and Turner counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Turner is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Turner is breathing heavily.
Dupuis wants to improve his position but Turner is controlling well.
Dupuis is trying to control but can't.

Turner is taking a breather. Dupuis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Turner's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Turner tries to clinch there but Dupuis circles away.
Dupuis has his takedown stuffed

and Turner counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dupuis!
Dupuis is looking to improve his position but Turner isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Turner trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Dupuis tries to lock up and control but Turner gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joshua Turner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Dupuis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Turner counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Dupuis keeping moving, preventing Turner from controlling successfully.
Turner passes into half guard.
Turner looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Dupuis is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Turner scores with a couple of nice shots.
Turner passes the guard and advances to mount!
Turner controlling the pace for now.

Dupuis tries to lock up and control but Turner gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Dupuis is squirming around, avoiding Turner's attempts to control the action.
Dupuis regains half guard.
Turner takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Turner tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dupuis knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Dupuis is trying to get back to full guard.
Turner is keen to just control but Dupuis is a slippery customer.
Turner is thwarting Dupuis's attempts to control the position.
Dupuis gets back to full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Dupuis is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Turner is controlling him.
Dupuis wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Turner is now in half guard.
Dupuis is looking to escape.

Turner keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Turner is trying to control the action in half guard but Dupuis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Dupuis wants to get back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Dupuis shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Turner manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Joshua Turner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Turner pulls Dupuis in close to his closed guard and prevents Dupuis from doing any damage or advancing position.
Dupuis wants to stand and escape but instead Turner has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Turner is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Dupuis is looking for a triangle but Turner pushes his legs off easily.

Dupuis has his foot on Turner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Turner works his way back into a safe position though.

Joshua Turner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Turner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
