Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Guillermo Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshida Kotaro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kotaro has chosen Dance Yourself Clean as his entrance music. Guillermo Castillo has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Guillermo Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yoshida Kotaro!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kotaro slips under a jab.
Kotaro moves out of range as Castillo throws a body kick.
A slapping leg kick lands for Kotaro.
Kotaro throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kotaro tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Castillo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kotaro defends it nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Castillo shoots in for a takedown but Kotaro shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Castillo stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kotaro.

Castillo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kotaro looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Check out the look on Castillo's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Kotaro is looking to regain half guard here but Castillo keeps moving and retains side control.

Castillo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kotaro knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Kotaro is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Castillo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kotaro is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Castillo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Castillo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Kotaro tries to improve position but can't.
Kotaro can't do much from the bottom here.
Castillo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kotaro sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Castillo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Castillo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kotaro circles away.

Kotaro tries to close the distance and clinch but Castillo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Castillo seems to be working for a kimura but Kotaro defends the submission attempt.

Castillo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kotaro sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kotaro does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Castillo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kotaro swivels and escapes.
Yoshida Kotaro is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Kotaro on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Castillo. Castillo obviously looking to wear him down.

Kotaro lands a head kick. Castillo smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Castillo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Castillo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Castillo is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kotaro has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Kotaro manages to control the position for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Guillermo Castillo will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kotaro tries a head kick but it misses.
Guillermo Castillo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Castillo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Castillo winds up and cracks Kotaro with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Castillo tries to pass to full mount but Kotaro defends it.
Kotaro is trying to stand up here but Castillo is controlling him well.
Kotaro tries to roll over but Castillo keeps him under control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kotaro won't allow Castillo to pass to mount.

Castillo lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Kotaro is holding on to half guard well.
Castillo is looking to take a break and control but Kotaro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Castillo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kotaro does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kotaro manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Castillo manages to get himself to full guard.

Castillo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kotaro has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Castillo is working away from the top position though.

That was a close second round but I would say that Guillermo Castillo will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Kotaro stuffs the takedown attempt from Castillo. Castillo gets slowly back to his feet.
Castillo swats away the attempt to clinch by Kotaro.

Castillo shoots for a double leg takedown but Kotaro sprawls well. He's pushed Castillo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kotaro tries to work over Castillo's front leg with a kick but Castillo checks it.
Castillo blocks a head kick by Kotaro.
Kotaro finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Castillo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Castillo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Castillo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kotaro is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Castillo is controlling him.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Castillo moves into full mount! Kotaro won't be happy about that!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kotaro can't escape the position.
Castillo looking to control and managing it successfully.
Castillo throwing strikes here but Kotaro is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Castillo is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kotaro is surviving well by controlling Castillo's body position as best he can.
Kotaro is trying desperately to improve position.

Castillo looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Castillo won't let Kotaro get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Castillo tries to control but Kotaro wriggling away.
Castillo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Kotaro tries to hold on but Castillo postures up.
Kotaro regains half guard.
Kotaro is trying to get back to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kotaro is staying active underneath Castillo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Castillo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
