PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sid Singh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Purcell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Singh comes to the ring accompanied by Amazing- Kanye West. Rick Purcell is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Sid Singh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Rick Purcell!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Sam Margolis and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Singh looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Purcell!

Singh goes for an armbar but Purcell turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Purcell.

Singh has his foot on Purcell's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Purcell works his way back into a safe position though.
Purcell trying to stand up but can't free himself from Singh's guard.
Purcell is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Singh looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Purcell wanted to stand there but Singh had control of the position.

Purcell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Singh has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Purcell has managed to get both his arms back between Singh's legs - danger averted.
Singh manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Purcell manages to get himself to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Singh trying to control the position from guard on top but Purcell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Singh is breathing heavily.

Singh drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Purcell dives on top into guard.
Purcell wants to get up but he can't break Singh's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Singh has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Purcell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Purcell stands up over Singh, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Purcell won't allow Singh to sweep him here.

Purcell stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Purcell has a takedown stuffed.
Singh throws a right and a left that Purcell avoids nicely.
No joy there for Purcell, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Purcell lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Purcell lands with a nice combination. Singh backs away looking to recover.


Singh is rocked!
Singh is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Purcell.
Oh Singh is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Purcell rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Singh moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Singh seems to have got his legs back now.
Purcell moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Singh avoids a punch combination nicely.
Singh tries to close the distance and clinch but Purcell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A big right from Singh misses.
Purcell throws a combination. Singh tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Purcell tries to keep at a distance but Singh has taken the fight into the clinch.

Purcell breaks from the clinch.
Singh changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Purcell tries to avoid it but Singh manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Purcell to the ground. Purcell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Decent striking displayed by Purcell there.
Singh fails with the takedown
and Purcell counters with a nice uppercut.

Singh darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Purcell looks like he's trying to stand up.

Singh is working for a submission of some sort.
Singh will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Singh wants to work for an arm triangle but Purcell is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Singh seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Purcell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Purcell moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Purcell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Singh. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Singh stops Purcell from standing up.

Singh drops back looking for a leg! Purcell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Purcell manages to kick Singh off! Singh jumps back into Purcell's guard.

Singh stands and steps away. Purcell gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Singh stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Singh wants it to stay on the feet.
Purcell is trying hard to land a takedown here. Singh sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Sid Singh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Purcell.

Singh closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Singh lands in his opponent's guard.
Singh sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Purcell's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Singh is trying for a kimura here. Purcell looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Singh wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sid Singh!
