PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kobe Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matteo Kielel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cox comes into the arena with Dope Boyz blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kobe Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Matteo Kielel!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kielel looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Cox tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kielel throws a big right hand that misses.
Kielel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cox works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Cox is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kielel is controlling him.
Cox looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kielel is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kielel shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cox's guard.

Kielel decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Kielel throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Cox is staying active underneath Kielel, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kielel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Cox feints and as Kielel raises his hands in defense, Cox changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kielel is looking to stand up but Cox isn't so interested in that idea.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cox distracts Kielel with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Cox wants to pass the guard but Kielel is keeping the position.

Kielel is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Cox dives into side control.

Kielel tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cox doesn't have the hooks in and Kielel manages to turn into his guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cox is on top in guard.

Cox chips away with some ground and pound.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kielel is looking to stand up but Cox isn't so interested in that idea.

Cox stands up and waves to Kielel to follow him.

Cox drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cox might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kobe Cox will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Cox shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Kielel wants to stand up but Cox is controlling him.

Kielel wants to stand and escape but Cox is having none of it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cox decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kielel, up you get!

Kobe Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matteo Kielel.
Kielel is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cox is controlling him well.

Kielel tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cox wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kielel takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Kielel is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Cox jumps into side control!

Cox is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kielel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Cox controlling the action here.
Kielel wants to get back to his feet.
Kielel landing small, sideways elbows.
Kielel tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Kielel is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kielel is trying to stand up here but Cox is controlling him well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cox working over Kielel with some ground and pound. Kielel looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Kobe Cox overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cox working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Cox is looking to advance position but Kielel won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kielel is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Cox is looking for a sweep. Kielel is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Cox counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kielel won't be happy with that.
Kielel tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Kielel is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Cox pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Kielel avoids the attempt from Cox to control.
Kielel sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Kielel is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Cox to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Cox shrugs it off.

Cox is trying to stand.

Kielel escapes and gets back to his feet.

Kielel gets caught flat footed, as Cox shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Cox wants to stand but Kielel has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Cox controls from within his opponent's guard.
Cox looking to pass the guard.
Kielel wants to get back to his feet but Cox is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Kielel kicks Cox off and gets to his feet.
Cox looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kielel is fending him off so far but Cox persists. Nope, Kielel circles away and we're back to standing.
Kobe Cox is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice takedown defense from Kielel. No joy for Cox on that attempt.

Cox gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Cox is trying to keep Kielel in close.

Kielel stands up from guard. Let's bang!

and Cox decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kielel's guard.
Kielel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kielel is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cox has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kielel avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cox tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kielel just stands there and leans against the cage.
Matteo Kielel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kobe Cox is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kielel tries a knee to the head but Cox blocks it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kobe Cox showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cox, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
