Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jesus Mendes has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jesus Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sam Shaw!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

No joy there for Shaw, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Shaw tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mendes was well out of range. Poor timing from Shaw.

Mendes gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shaw to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Mendes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shaw controls the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
I looks like Shaw might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Shaw shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mendes napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Shaw misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Mendes is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Shaw has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Mendes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Shaw is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mendes is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mendes has escaped and now he's on top!

Well Shaw has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
