PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Davison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Zaldiar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Zaldiar!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Davison throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Zaldiar was covering up waiting for the punch and Davison finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Davison stops Zaldiar from standing up.
Davison wants to control from the top but Zaldiar keeps moving.
Zaldiar being controlled here, momentarily.
Zaldiar trying to keep a closed guard but Davison is proving a slippery customer.

Zaldiar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Zaldiar not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Davison knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Zaldiar on the ground.
Zaldiar keeping moving, preventing Davison from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Zaldiar gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Davison to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Davison tries to free his leg and advance position but Zaldiar is retaining full guard.
Davison wants to stand but Zaldiar has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Zaldiar manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Davison is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Zaldiar lands a nice shot to the head.
Zaldiar trying to control but Davison is having none of it.
Davison might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Davison's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Zaldiar wants to control the pace but Davison is squirming around nicely.
Zaldiar lands a heavy elbow.
Zaldiar lands with some strikes.
Davison is trying to stand.

Zaldiar is working for a guillotine from mount but Davison frees his head quite easily.
You get the feeling that Davison really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Davison is breathing heavily.
Zaldiar content just to control the position here.
Zaldiar can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Davison is looking to escape.

Zaldiar won't let Davison get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Zaldiar lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Davison on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Davison tries to get out of the position.

Zaldiar trying to control but Davison is having none of it.
The referee warns Davison that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Zaldiar wants to take his opponent's back but Davison doesn't allow it.
Zaldiar wants to control the pace but Davison is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Davison tries for a takedown but Zaldiar sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Davison shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zaldiar sprawls well. Zaldiar wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Davison gets slowly back to his feet.

Zaldiar lands a big head kick that sends Davison tumbling to the mat! Zaldiar takes a step backwards and waves Davison back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Davison shoots in looking for a takedown. Zaldiar tries to sprawl out of it but Davison keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zaldiar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shawn Davison. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zaldiar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Zaldiar throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Davison's head.


Jeez, Shawn Davison's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Shawn Davison's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
