PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wanderlei Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miikka Milhouse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machida's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Concrete Schoolyard. Milhouse has chosen Love Gun as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Wanderlei Machida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Miikka Milhouse!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Milhouse moves into the clinch successfully.
Machida has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Milhouse avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Machida drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Milhouse gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Machida works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Machida wants to control from the top but Milhouse keeps moving.
Milhouse looking for a sweep. Not yet Milhouse, not yet.
Machida looking to sit in guard and control but Milhouse gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Milhouse scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Milhouse landing with the ground and pound.
Machida is trying to keep Milhouse in close.
Milhouse throws a strike but Machida rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Milhouse is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Milhouse is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Machida is aware though and is defending well.

Milhouse looking for subs off his back but Machida has passed one foot through into half guard.
Machida trying to control from half guard but Milhouse is working away.
Machida moves into full mount! Milhouse won't be happy about that!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Machida fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Machida looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Machida breaks from Milhouse's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Machida looking to control but Milhouse is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Milhouse keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Machida can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Milhouse is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Machida landing strikes, looking to finish!


It looks like Miikka Milhouse has been cut.
Milhouse stops Machida from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Machida jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Milhouse manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Machida tries to advance to mount but Milhouse denies him.
Machida trying to control the position but Milhouse is working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Milhouse avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Machida.
Machida is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Milhouse's shoulder. That is not cool.

Machida is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Milhouse knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Machida controls the position from side control.
Machida trying to control the action but Milhouse is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wanderlei Machida dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Miikka Milhouse's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Machida fails with the takedown.
Machida shoots in and drives through. Milhouse sprawls well.
Machida looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Milhouse is fending him off so far but Machida persists. Nope, Milhouse circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wanderlei Machida. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Milhouse bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Milhouse connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Machida some visible discomfort.

Milhouse is trying to get an arm triangle but Machida is defending well.
Machida takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Milhouse lands an elbow.
You can see the frustration on Machida's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Machida tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Milhouse wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Milhouse is working Machida over with some ground and pound from side control.

Milhouse is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Machida has escaped the position, nice work there.
Machida on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Machida sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Machida gets full guard.
Milhouse pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Machida is keeping the position for now.
Machida wants to sweep but no luck.
Milhouse stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Machida swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Milhouse landing some decent shots from guard.
Milhouse working some strikes from top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Milhouse is working Machida over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Milhouse stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Machida swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Milhouse stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Machida has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Milhouse manages to get his head free but now Machida has transitioned to an armbar! Milhouse grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Machida! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Wanderlei Machida!
