PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Beer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Skader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Beer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrew Skader!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skader tries to clinch up.
Skader throws a head kick but Beer moves out of range.
Beer misses with a jab, cross combination.
Skader throws a head kick that misses.

Beer shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Skader's guard.
Beer content to stall in guard here.
Beer has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Beer prevents Skader from getting back to his feet.
Beer controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Beer won't allow Skader to get back to his feet.
Beer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Skader is keeping the position for now.
Skader wants to stand up but Beer is controlling him.

Skader keeping moving, preventing Beer from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Beer moves into the clinch.
Skader wants to break free but Beer has control.
Skader takes an elbow to the temple.


It looks like Andrew Skader has been cut.

Beer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Beer throws a head kick that misses
and Skader counters with a head kick.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Beer!
Skader looks gassed!

Beer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Check out the look on Beer's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Beer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The strikes coming from Beer are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Beer stands up.

Beer shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Skader napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Beer postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Skader is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Beer is controlling him well.

Beer tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Beer has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Skader tries to clinch but Beer moves away

and Beer counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Skader!

Skader is trying to stand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Beer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Skader is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Beer unloads with some shots from mount but Skader bucks and avoids them well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Beer tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Skader's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Beer scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Skader?
Beer fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Beer pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Skader squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Beer looking to ground and pound but Skader is blocking nicely.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Skader is bucking up trying to escape but Beer cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Beer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Skader really wants to buck Beer off and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


No joy there for Beer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Skader closes the distance but Beer moves to the side

and Beer moves into the clinch.

Beer ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Beer no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Skader tries to stand but Beer is controlling from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Beer is on top in guard.
Skader is looking to stand up but Beer isn't so interested in that idea.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Beer is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Beer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Skader swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Beer seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Skader wants to stand up but Beer is controlling him.

Beer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Skader swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Beer stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Skader throws a head kick that misses
and Beer counters with a stiff right hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Beer is trying hard to land a takedown here. Skader sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Beer shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Skader napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Beer decides to stand back up.
Beer circles away from the clinch attempt

and Beer counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Skader wants to stand and escape but Beer is having none of it.
Daniel Beer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Beer makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Andrew Skader has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Daniel Beer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Skader throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Well Beer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
