PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marco Kowal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kowal kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Czas na Walke. Fedor Emelianenko is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Igor Prikhodko and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowal shoots in for a takedown but Emelianenko shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Emelianenko looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Kowal is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Emelianenko swats away the attempt to clinch by Kowal.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Emelianenko's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Emelianenko decides to stand back up. Emelianenko steps back and let's Kowal get back to his feet.
Kowal wants to clinch but Emelianenko slips to the side
and Emelianenko counters with a body kick.

so Emelianenko counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Emelianenko is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fedor Emelianenko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Emelianenko throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kowal's waist but Kowal gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Emelianenko off to one side.

Despite being in the dominant position, Fedor Emelianenko just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kowal looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kowal looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Let's hope that Emelianenko has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
